I was interested in this adaptation because 1.) I thought the new take seemed interesting 2.) DiCaprio's involvement would have attracted the top-notch talent this movie needed and 3.) stretching the story over two movies would have helped capture more of the manga's epic-ness BUT that being said, I can live without this remake.

I've always felt like the Akira anime was one of the most cinema-looking animated movies ever, so how much could a live-action version really bring to the table?

I also 100% agree with any dissenting views on a live-action version of Ghost in the Shell because that's such a visually amazing movie that a switch to live-action would either not be able to live up to the anime's aesthetic or copy it, in which case it'd seem pretty redundant.

Why am I not surprised that Eli Roth's idea of "paying off" characters is to have them die horribly in the second half of movie?

I know he's already pulled this with The Twilight Zone Movie, but I'd like to see Joe Dante do something genre-centric again.

That awful sequence in Sweeney Todd where the camera zips around London. It looked pretty shitty and didn't fit with the rest of the film at all. It didn't ruin the movie for me but I always hate seeing that part. Also, I'm really against CGI blood/gore, it's almost always too obvious and fake-looking.
