All we expect is a level playing field.There are some countries that rip off our intellectual property, commit industrial and military espionage and dump products below costs to destroy domestic producers. They also flagrantly violate all accepted norms for air pollution which end up contaminating the air we breath. And in the case of China, they are using mercantilism to develop a military which one day will have the capacity to wage war on our soil.

Perhaps the Nat Gas Act is poorly constructed but it is sheer ideological stubbornness to say that the Fed should not play a role in shifting demand from imported oil to a plentiful, domestic and cheaper source of energy. Somethings the free market can not do such as the Interstate System. I would not subsidize vehicle purchases since the lower cost is incentive enough. However, legislation is needed to help develop the roadside supply sources for OTR trucks . Yes, free enterprise will eventually achieve this but not until we have major and sustained oil crisis and then it will take years to accomplish. And yes this is a matter of national security because the more reliant we are on foreign oil, the more we have to spend on defense and put our military personnel in harm's way. Of course any intervention should be limited in time and money. I believe that, unlike solar and wind, this endeavor will be self sustaining in the long run. If this were not the case then I would concur with the laissez faire argument.

If legalized, there is no doubt that use of the drug would go up significantly now and in the future. This will only add to the human carnage that intoxicants cause to our society. Maybe getting high isn't any more immoral than getting drunk but breaking the law is. For the good of society, is it too much too ask citizens to forgo getting stoned? How selfish can people be. And remember alcohol has a healthy negative feedback in the form of hangovers. MJ doesn't.

Prime example why third parties are a crock. The fact that Libertarians were even contemplating supporting a RINO shows than any political party run by human beings can be corrupted. We are on the verge of losing this Republic forever. There isn't time to establish a third party. If there is an attractive Libertarian candidate who wants to run against a moderate Republican then by all means he should take him on in the primary. Embarrass the hell out of them. I guarantee you that most of us would definitely vote for one.

Most elections are determine by plurality so that if you have a Democrat, Republican and a Libertarian, you have just done Pelosi a great big favor. If you truly despise the leadership of the Party then throw them out. It would have been impossible in the past because the rank and file were like sheep. Folks, that has all changed. The party's platform isn't written in stone. Look how fast a few activist change the Abortion Plank. In a two party system, a highly vocal and committed group can takeover the party in one election cycle. Look how Goldwater overtook Rockefeller. We did it before and we can do it again.

Question. How did the left wing radicals take over? The Green Party? No. They exploited the two party system and now control all three branches of government. We could easily do the same but it will take activism to take back the Republican Party. Third Parties will accomplish nothing except to give more Power to Pelosi and Obama. The LP party will never go anywhere because so few people believe in their platform. If you love ranting more than saving our country then I guess wasting your efforts on fringe parties is the way to go. And if you think the two party system is so evil, then compare it to a country like Italy. But if you want to salvage our great country while there is still time then it's time to join forces and use the most viable vehicle available. That is the GOP. We can throw the moderate leaders out and become a powerful force again. We can bicker about our differences later. Now is the time to save the ship.
