Mets wouldn't need the Yankees to pay for Burnett. The remaining money for Bay and Burnett is pretty much even. So neither team would have much more of a financial burden than they do now.

A lot of things are going to have to break right for this team to be competitive this year (IMO). Team has to be healthy all year long, a lot of guys are going to have to have above average years (especially the pitchers) and other teams within the division will need to have to have bad years.

Mike - your last sentence is something that I don't think a lot of Mets fans have with this team and rightfully so. I understand that it's only been one season for Alderson and team but at the same time this is an organization that has not made the playoffs in 5 years and haven't won't a WS in 26 years. Patience has worn out.

While the 87 team was good I don't know if they were better than 88, 73, 2000, 2006, 1999 or 1985.

That 99 team was fun to watch. To me this is all a very debatable topic. 99 can def be in the top three list of Mets teams that never won the WS

06 Mets only won three more games than 2000 team did and the 2000 team played through a much stronger NL. 2000 also had better starting pitching IMO.
