Yeah I hate religious debate but I agree, I feel like most people misunderstand me when I say I'm a Christian because I guess...I'm a rare Christian haha. I'm not so much "God is in control of my life!" Rather, I believe "I am in control of my life, but I choose to use it in a way that honors this God that I believe exists. Cause he rocks and I love him! :D" Its like having another parent for me I guess. I love him, try to obey him, but when I screw up it's okay too cause he loves me anyway. And parents aren't supposed to control your life, but rather want the best for you, otherwise they deprive you of free will. Since I believe that God created humans for the very purpose of giving us free will as free beings (he doesn't want robots), I don't believe that he wants to deprive us of that.
