bike parking downtown is a pretty big mess these days. when the car parking meters were removed, all the posts to lock bikes to went away. the bike corrals have been a great addition. I'd like to see one of those on every block; that would help a lot. there's a bigger challenge lurking however. bike values have gone way up, and many commuters don't want to park their bike on the street out of fear of theft or just weathering. in my opinion we're going to have to figure out some sort of car parking equivalent. I can safely park my car downtown pretty easily; street spots, or parking garage. for bikes neither of those options exist; all the bike parking spaces are occupied, and there are no "bike parking garages." I'd gladly pay for secure/relatively-weather-proof bike parking.
