Torbit blog : Help us stop SOPA - protest on your site!

You can either strip out the if-statement and control the timing yourself, or change the timestamps according to the timezone you want to use. Here's a handy tool for calculating them: http://www.epochconverter.com/ You'll need to add 3 zeros to the end of a standard Unix timestamp since JavaScript counts milliseconds instead of seconds.

Sure, an easy way to do this is to add a GET variable to the end of the URL you are fetching (ie. ?mysql_id=42) and then parse out that ID when the request completes from the CURL info array.

I've had multiple reports of issues w/ those 2 browsers (see the comments above). Hopefully I'll find the time to dig into this more soon.

Great point. I've written and talked about that issue as well: http://www.onlineaspect.com/2007/05/18/how_to_bui...

Online Aspect : A few words about EventVue

Things that worked well -- attendees loved our product. We did a good job at keeping the product simple and we used lots of tricks to auto-import their picture and bio from facebook, twitter, linkedin, gravitar, etc. That part worked well. Including faces in emails worked well for driving engagement. We tracked who got clicked on the most frequently and used their faces (ie. hot girls & VCs') in our emails. Every event organizer has an ongoing nightmare that no one will show up their event. If you promise them a way to sell more tickets (especially early) you'll grab their attention. The domains are for sale -- we have eventvue.com & vue.me. Contact me offline if you're interested.

Ah, good catch. Yes, you probably want to close those. I haven't tried reusing the connections, or at least I don't remember experimenting with that. Would be interesting to see if you can make that work. If you do, please post your results here so others can gain from them. Thanks!

Online Aspect : 3 types of winning

Thanks for reaching out Mark. I must say, one of the thing you guys are doing well is your customer support via social media. My biggest general complaint is that we're getting less than half the download speed we're paying for. Then a couple months ago my internet slowed to a crawl. Download speeds were okay, but it would take forever to connect and would periodically drop out altogether. I called Comcast and they insisted it could be fixed with a modem reset. Nope. Another call. Try replacing your wireless router. Still broken. Oh, you must need to replace your modem. Okay. Finally after replacing every bit of hardware Comcast sent out an engineer who replaced all the cables leading into our house. Our speeds improved, but we're stilling having intermittent latency issues when connecting. I'd call again but I'm pretty sure they'd tell me it was my laptop that is broken (it's not). I'd appreciate any help you can provide! Thanks!

Torbit blog : WebP statistics

Browser support is the key though. It looks like JPEG XR is only available for IE 9 right now. But if it really does offer similar quality to JPEG w/ file sizes along the lines of WebP, it would probably make sense for us to offer that auto-conversion on Torbit as well.
