So, just to be the devil's advocate here, what happens to identity security, then? Would an unlinked driver's license mean that to get through airport security I would need to have my passport along? And how would this impact other immigrant and/or refugee groups - like the Somalis, for example - who are not issued passports because of the non-functioning status of their government? Currently, access to a driver's license provides them with a state-issued form of ID.

I love the proposed solution, but I also know that folks who are opposed to it will find any and all reason to find fault with the idea. Better to be prepared with a response, no?

Great work, Joe. I wonder, has anyone calculated what the state of MN would gain if all of our undocumented workers were able to get legal licenses and paid the fee? It seems to me that it would actually be a benefit to the state, not a drain on resources...
