As for the URL shorteners I'm fond of is.gd and bit.ly because you can track clicks and I also use ow.ly, mostly because I like the ease of use of Hootlet. Ow.ly links give you a lot of informationin in your Hootlet.com dashboard, however Google doesn't index those links, so I don't use it for marketing my own material. Did you see this post from Marshall Kirkpatrick at RRW? http://www.readwriteweb.com/archives/twitter_crow...

As I understand it they want your full legal name and not your user name. Your user name is not a legal name.

Janet Fouts : Finding Quality Followers on Twitter

The lazy businesses will never go away but they won't stay in social media because it's too much work! Either that or they'll automate it which will be as easy to tune out as a banner ad.

Thanks for the link to your post. I tried Topify once before but I didn't like putting their email in place of mine on my profile, maybe I'll take a second look!

I don't really thing the signature thing is a big deal. It's just the same when you upload an image, you have to verify you have rights to use the image. Here's a link to some good info about this: http://www.allfacebook.com/2009/04/public-profile... Oh, and for all the people who couldn't figure out how to enter a digital signature. What they want is your name. No URL's etc, just your name.

Janet Fouts : Two steps to social media success

Yep, measuring is incredibly important but I lump it in with listening. I really think some people never get on the bandwagon because social media seems so complex and it really doesn't have to be. By listening (and measuring) you can really be on top of your social media engagement.

Well I said it was an over-simplification... WEG There is a ton to learn of course, but if you get down to the basics, this is it.

Good point Andy. If you don't want to or can't engage, at least learn something. I notice you do a very good job of keeping on top of your listening and engaging. That's one of the reasons I'm a loyal Trackur customer. Well, that and it's an outstanding way to listen at an affordable cost!

Janet Fouts : Social media contests-inexpensive marketing at it's best?

Thanks Danny, I've been watching 12 for 12K and how successful it's been. One question I get from a lot of people thinking about fund-raising with social media is: How much does the popularity (i.e number of followers) of the people running the campaign have to do with it? For a non-profit for example, just getting into social media has a shorter arm than an established social media rackstar.

Janet Fouts : Amplify- a new way to comment

John, Point well taken. Auto-posting without moderation is a form of broadcasting. The way I use Amplify is for the links that I want to have a longer input than 140 chars but don't want to write a whole blog post. so I write my comment on the post on Amplify and I'm on Twitter constantly so I see replies and DMs and respond there or on Amplify.

Janet Fouts : What's wrong with Twitter?

Thanks Danny, I confess I abandoned Twitter for Plurk back in the dark days of fail whale domination, but it just wasn't an interface I could deal with and I was happy to get back to the simplicity of Twitter. Now though people are posting to FriendFeed and Facebook, and these are much better options for people to go to and not come back to Twitter. Listen up @ev and @biz, you can't count on us forever.
