Society today, for the most part, would rather see the church be authentic as opposed to relevant. That's why people will go to a traditional church that they have no stylistic connection with if the pastor is "REAL." It's also why they will stop going to that exact same church when the choir butchers a Hillsong United tune. It's comes across hypocritical and turns them off. The same holds true on the other end of the church "style" spectrum. Just keep it real. Don't try to be something you're not. Be who God created you to be. If we will embrace this we will reach EXACTLY who God wants us to reach EVERY time. GUARANTEED!

I work at a church that has the "rule". It's not really an issue to me because I made the same promise to my wife. My ministry assistant is female and we have to work together, but I'm very purposeful about never being completely alone with her. We do have closed-door conversations and music sessions, but my door has a big freakin' window in it that the entire office can see in... also a very good idea for the workplace.
