We always overestimate how long it takes for major innovation to get from the lab to the mainstream world (typically 30 years). And we underestimate just how dramatic the change will actually be.

Yes, and of course the SEC has it's own version of this. To wit... The SEC to Examine the Role of Corporate Boards in the Financial Crisis http://bit.ly/YtmR2. If any oversight body failed us, it is the SEC. Classic Misdirection.
