Jay Goldman : How to tether a Telus BlackBerry with a Mac

Did you install the BlackBerry modem files in part 5 of Step 1? That's my first guess as to why you're not seeing it. Let me know if that fixes your problem.

There has recently been some success at getting Siri to run on an iPhone 4 and iPod touch, but they aren't releasing the hack to the public right now: http://www.tuaw.com/2011/10/29/siri-working-on-ip...

Siri is available in Canada, as I explained above. It's just turned off by default, also for reasons explained above.

I'm pretty sure you can just create one if it isn't there. Make sure you are looking in your all user library and not in the one in your user directory (/Library/Modem Files vs. ~/Library/Modem Files).

Jay Goldman : 8 SEO Tips and Tricks

Thanks for the comment! I'd say that's a pretty misguided position. The benefits of meta tags far outweigh the risk that someone is going to steal your keywords and then outrank you for them. If your competitors are savvy enough to do that, there's a good chance they can figure out your keywords all by themselves.

They are definitely deprecated for their straight SEO value, but you shouldn\\\'t leave them blank. The description, for example, can often appear with your site on SERPs. It has also found a new purpose thanks to all of the social share widgets, which often use it as the default content they include when sharing (especially Facebook).

Jay Goldman : 8 SEO Tips and Tricks

Matt — there\\\'s a difference between a sitemap for your site\\\'s visitors (human readable) and a sitemap.xml file for search engines (machine readable). Both will help with SEO in different ways. In the case of the human sitemap, you can call it anything you\\\'d like and put it anywhere so long as it\\\'s linked to from other pages. The goal is to provide an overview of your site\\\'s major sections and pages to people and to help crawlers discover all the links to crawl. The machine readable sitemap.xml needs to be called that and should go in the root level of your site (e.g.: http://jaygoldman.com/sitemap.xml). It has to be in XML format and should be submitted to the search engines through their webmaster tools. Google for \\\'sitemap.xml\\\' for more info. Hope that helps!

Jay Goldman : Travelling to the US with Rogers

Geoff — that\\\'s probably not true. Your device has already received the text and incurred the network access before you\\\'ve read it. Likewise, it had used some amount of data to download the email\\\'s \\\'envelope\\\' even if you haven\\\'t downloaded all of the content. On the flipside — and this may be what that info was based on — you shouldn\\\'t be charged for a phone call if you don\\\'t answer it.

I completely agree - even with this 'fix' it's definitely not as good. It's only an extension away from bring as good though, so I challenge any devs reading this to build a better Omnibar for Chrome. Lots of people will love you for it! #lazyweb

You should definitely contact Rogers if you haven't already done so. Wireless signals don't respect international borders (unfortunately!), so there will always be some leaking from both sides. Your phone is probably joining a network coming across from the US, which puts you on roaming. Depending on the phone, you might be able to switch off roaming or tell it to prefer one network over another.

Sure! The webmaster tools from Google and Bing give you the capability to submit a sitemap URL, which they'll regularly pull to check. It's an XML file with entries for each page on your site and some info about its last update and change frequency.
LeadingSmart : Get Rid of the Performance Review?

Great conversation! We're big fans of Sam Culbert's approach. Performance reviews have their place (in Churches and in business), but top managers know to coach their people rather than giving them a hit-and-run smack upside the head once a year (great imagery Jim!). There's some more great conversation happening on this topic at Make Work Meaningful, a collaborative conversation on the future of work. Check out the Performance Management section for some posts on the topic:http://makeworkmeaningful.com/section/performance... Very much on topic pitch: you guys should check out Rypple too. We provided a web-based tool for fast feedback and quick coaching that helps managers motivate, align, and develop their teams. Our Coach tool is all about making 1:1 coaching conversations happen regularly and capturing actions, notes, and kudos all in one place.
Good catch! I was just passing along what the Rogers rep told me, but she obviously was wrong. The footnote says:
U.S. roaming is $0.006 per KB and international roaming is $0.03 per KB when you subscribe to a Data plan. If you subscribe to a Flex rate data plan, the U. S. roaming is $3 per MB and international roaming is $0.03 per KB". If you subscribe to unlimited on-device browsing rate, both the U. S. roaming and international roaming is $0.03 per KB

Bryce is absolutely right. What makes BarCamp work is that everyone is a founder and member of the community. Didn't mean to leave anyone out above, but rather to call attention to some of the folks who have gone above and beyond in continuing to make it an awesome community.
