John, I always thought you were one weird dude, but your in depth reporting of the divider-less urinals definitely confirms my suspicions! Keep your eyes looking forward, buddy!

Feld Thoughts : Letters to My Dad

I'm hoping your dad has actually worn other shirts and hats over the past 44+ years! Wow, if not, that's gotta be some sort of record ;) Cool stuff Brad. I never had the chance to know my real father (mother divorced while I was still infant) and for most of my young adult life, was rather pissed off at my step father. But then, around the age of 30 +/- I got over it and started learning some stuff from him. Now that I'm getting older, I realize so much more about why he might have been the way he was; how life affected him, me, everyone?

John Hawkins Unrated : WordPress and the need for canonical plugins

Like your concept of "child" plugins. If developers used and publicized hooks in their work, we could really get closer to an amazing add on infrastructure between parent/child themes, theme frameworks, and plugins with papoose functionality!

Phoenix WordCamp : Situation Report

Hey Chuck, I'm up in Cottonwood and would love to somehow participate. Even if nothing more than being there with a couple of extra hands during the event, you can count on me. Feel free to let me know how I can help! If your event is a third as groovy as this years WC Las Vegas, it will be huge fun. Thanks!

John Hawkins Unrated : I'm done with auto-follow on Twitter

Totally with you John. I've thought about using the automated services from time to time, and like your discovery, realized that it will just lead to heartache and pain! I'll go in spurts at this point, but like you've outlined in this post, I tend to want to check out new follows twitter stream as well as a web site if they have one listed on their twitter profile. Then, I usually always follow back unless they are scum, er, spam!

Alternative MBA - The Journey : The "Now What?" Syndrome

There's a lot of activity over at the Ning site related to just this sort of query. I'd suggest simply latching on there, and seeing where the ride takes you!

SmugBlog: Don MacAskill : On Why Auto-Scaling in the Cloud Rocks

Just a guess on my part, but do you think when George goes to the gas station with his (assuming he owns a) car he only puts in the exact amount of fuel for the journey that will get him where he needs to be, and back again to that station? Guessing not! Companies like SmugMug are clearly on the leading edge, and in my opinion have or are crossing the chasm of CBAS (trademark Steve ;) !) Companies like RightScale are "knitting" a lot of those auto scaling capabilities together and allow slubs like me to benefit from the work of (really smart) slubs like Don! Those templates are readily available for putting together intelligent solutions for you company's needs. Hmmm, sort of like just filling up your gas tank when you get fuel. Imagine that!

Alternative MBA - The Journey : Writer's Block Sucks

Seems these "writers blocks" are simply coming about when we think too much! Do you know your "process" for creating something new? Once you know what needs to happen in your body, mind and soul, it seems so much easier to create. This is the one thing I've focused on consistently over the past few years. So now, instead of just trying to plow through it, I follow what seems to work best for me. So far so good. Will let you know when my application is complete as to whether it worked this time!

Social Media Soup : The 3 things I learned by following and unfollowing 19,348 people on Twitter.

Interesting how memes just seem to gurgle up from the ether around topics. Just this past weekend shared a post/comment/tweet exchange with an ex-Twitterer that I had unfollowed, after she started using Qwitter and posted about unfollowing those that unfollowed here (again, like Michael above, via notification from Qwitter.) In a nutshell, what I find is that the beauty of Twitter and/or the rest of the social media sites/tools is that we get to use them how, when and where WE want to use them. And in the end, don't you think that's a good thing? I sure do! If anyone would like to follow the above mentioned conversation, it is actually quite interesting and can be found at The Politics and Practice of Following on Twitter

Feld Thoughts : The End Software Patents Coalition

Read your earlier post about software patents, Brad. But what about patents on methods or processes? I've just sent in my first application to the USPTO and am working on my second. Do specific methods also fall into this category? Curious.
