Totally agree about T3, particularly the ending. Oddly satisfying, particularly because (trying not to spoil) they already told us how it was going to end, and yet were able to make us sincerely believe it might not actually end that way. That's great storytelling. For a while there he looked like someone Sally Struthers might lose sleep over. Man, that's how I felt watching Ewan MacGregor in "Haywire" last week. All I could think was, "Poor guy, is he ill? Like seriously ill?"

I think that's been a common problems with all the shows that have tried to be the "next LOST." They keep trying to recreate the mythology and mystery surrounding the island, not realizing that that's not really what kept viewers coming back year after year. It was the characters.

Hmm. Personally, I can't get too upset that a party allegedly for military families (more likely for Sasha and Malia, and the military kids were an afterthought to justify it, but whatev) wasn't turned into a PR moment for the Obamas. I understand the desire to expose the frivolity of it in a bad economy, and how that is probably why it wasn't covered by the MSM, etc. That's all worth discussing. But speaking as a member of the military community, it's kind of nice that at least *once* they didn't turn the military families in attendance into political props ("Look how much we support the military!") and just let them have a good time.

I had a (former) teacher friend of mine say that standardized testing took "too much time" away from "real" teaching - they had to prep a whole two days before the tests. And I said, well, if the test is over 8th grade math, and you teach 8th grade math, why should that interfere with your regular curriculum? Never got a real answer. Just, "Well, it's not that simple." Never heard why, naturally. I'm sorry, but right now I feel like trying to convince education professionals that standardized testing doesn't stand in their way is a lost cause. They are taught it in Ed. school. They are inundated with it on the job and in the media. It's willful ignorance.
