Boy, you're a glutton for punishment, aren't you? Limbaugh, TODAY (5-12-09): "We're supposed to tolerate the perversions and godlessness of the left, but when we stand up and just express our beliefs ... it's time to get the Gestapo."

Keep in mind, both examples I've given are things he said in the last 24 hours (to bolster George's claim that Rush make outrageous attacks "every day"). If I went back through the archives I could really bring the crazy.

For an article about rappers keepin' it real, you could probably find a more appropriate illustration than a photo of Vanilla Ice.

"Leo Penn, the father of famous actor Sean Penn, was hauled before the House Committee on Un-American Activities (the McCarthy hearings) during the 1950s..."

I would like to think that Americans could condemn the act of the State dragging citizens before committees and demanding that they rat out their friends for the crime of ideological impurity. I would like to think we could at least condemn the act 6 decades after the fact and 3 decades after the fall of the Soviet Union (is there a Communist threat anywhere in the world today?), but as we can see from the McCarthy defenders here, some people are not willing to make that leap, yet.

George: "Limbaugh makes a living out of making attacks like this every single day."

Miko: "One example to buttress your srgument would be helpful."

Just one? Okay, here's Rush Limbaugh, yesterday (5-11-09): "[Obama] had another one of those meetings today with all of these health insurance groups. It's like Don Corleone bringing these people in and telling what's going to happen to them if the don't go along. We know this is the modus operandi. We know that threats and intimidation are used by this administration to get what they want."

If comedians start hammering Obama about his timidity on gay issues, he might start supporting gay marriage and repeal DODT. Careful what you wish for.

"Punishing those who can't oppose you seems very "liberal" and "socialist" of him."

Do you consider taking government services away and replacing them with private market services to be punishment? And those opposed to this are socialists? That does not compute.

"Thankfully enough veterans groups were able to complain and did, that's been shelved."

I agree. Veterans groups (across the ideological divide) rightfully opposed this idea. Because no matter what your politics, we all agree that we need government to do certain things, like caring for our veterans (and maintaining police and fire departments, and building roads and schools, and making sure toys don't have date rape drugs in them).

"make veterans financially responsible for their own service-related medical treatments. "

From the link: "The Obama administration is considering making veterans use private insurance to pay for treatment of combat and service-related injuries."

Obama wants to let corporations take over what was traditionally a government service? Hmm. That's pretty "free-market" of him. Maybe he's not a socialist after all.

But to be fair, we should also shame the "artist" who did this.

"It's set in today's time,actually"

Yeah, I know, I was just being cheeky! Since you mention it, it should be mentioned (is that redundant?) that during its tortured, decades-long preproduction the Watchmen movie went through several drafts set in modern times, before reverting to the Cold War setting. Good choice? Discuss.

And I have "Nixon's The One!" on my bumper. But ironically.

Shakespeare. Figures. No wonder it's incomprehensible.

I mean, c'mon: "Et tu, Brute?"
