Feld Thoughts : Amazon Fires Its Affiliates in Colorado (Including Me) Because of Colorado HB 10-1193

Not only did they screw all of us affiliates, but they also fucked themselves out of the income tax we paid on the affiliate income. If it really was $37.5M of income, that's probably at least $10M of tax revenue that's gone. Nice work.

Wow. If I was on that beach, and had seen this cloud (without having ever seen a picture of one), I would be seriously contemplating the end of the world.

http://www.jeffnolan.com/blog/ : Kindle 2 Far

I think it would require a different sort of display technology, too. As you've no doubt noticed on the kindle, the screen refresh is pretty slow...assuming that's a limitation of the current technology, they'll have to think of something new there.

http://www.jeffnolan.com/blog/ : Kindle 2 Far

Hmm. I use a Kindle every day...my thoughts on your list: 1. Color? Don't care. I mean, it would be cool, but not a game changer. 2. Video? No thanks. I want to read books on it. I've already got multiple devices that will play video just fine. 3. DRM workaround. Yes please! 4. Battery - for what it does today, the battery is fine. I think for technical books, where you might have charts you need to refer to and such, the new Kindle DX will be just the ticket (it's a bit of a hassle on the existing one). Newspapers? Not sure...if they remain formatted the same way as the existing ones (I read WSJ on mine), don't think it will make a difference (my guess is they will come up with a different layout to take advantage of more space). For reading novels, though, I'll stick with the K2.

I think the old skool among us would definitely write it in C:

printf("Foundry Group Raises $225 Million Early Stage VC Fund");

but with .NET taking over the Windows development world, we'd end up with:

Console.WriteLine("Foundry Group Raises $225 Million Early Stage VC Fund");

Real men would write this in assembly...unfortunately, I've forgotten too much assembly to even give it a shot. :-(

Feld Thoughts : My New MacBook Pro and Exchange

Brad, I just use the built-in Leopard mail app. The only thing it doesn't do well is calendar integration - but I've finally worked out a system to keep my calendar in sync, and it's only slightly less convenient than Outlook was.

Feld Thoughts : Help Me With My New MacBook Pro

Funny, I did this same thing a couple of weeks ago...although I didn't destroy my Windows laptop. :-) Here's the stuff I'm using, as a recent Windows convert:

Safari 3 (built into Leopard) - I used to hate Safari, but IMHO they totally nailed it in this version. Totally rocks, so I don't need no steeenking Firefox.

NetNewsWire - of course. :-)

iWork 08 - I've been fighting hard trying not to use Office 2004, and the iwork apps have made this pretty seamless.

Mail and iCal - we're an Exchange shop, so all my stuff was there. Since I didn't love Entourage 2004, I've been using Mail (connected to Exchange), and iCal and Address Book. Never really got address book working the way it should with Exchange, but I just synced it from my iPhone and use it as a master now. And iCal is a bit of a hassle using with a whole office that's using Outlook/Exchange, but I've got it down to the minimum pain possible now I think. I like it - for example, searching in Mail is super-fast.

VMWare Fusion - I hardly ever use it, but it totally works.

Verizon EVDO - didn't even have to install the Verizon software, the Expresscard support is built in. Super cool.

Photoshop and Lightroom - for my photography stuff.

Adium - I like iChat better, but adium talks to MSN.

Twitterific.

I think that's most of what I use on a daily basis...but I've gotten some good ideas from this post!
