Actually, both the absolute and relative humidity increased last night after the cold front came through.

The dewpoint (measure of absolute humidity) increased from about 20 to near 50.
The relative humidity increased from about 10% to near 70%. http://www.eol.ucar.edu/cgi-bin/weather.cgi?site=...

I actually gave a talk about this at IgniteBoulder, video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Iq-VWzglD8

The talk is a mix of fun and facts...but weather forecasters have consistently improved over the last 50 years, thanks in large part to better technology and computing resources. For an entertaining and educational account of the progress in meteorology over the last half century, try on Mike Smith's book "Warnings"...it's actually a fun read with lots of stories of Tornadoes and other types of interesting weather: http://www.amazon.com/Warnings-Story-Science-Tame...

Good point, but it's slightly different. For the most recent "non-storm" on Wed/Thu, Boulder was always on the "edge" of getting snow...it was far from a sure bet. These are tricky situations...if the storm shifts 50 miles one way or the other, we get 0" or 6". Tough call. However, looking at the GENERAL weather pattern over the next 7-10 days, it looks like more of the same: snow in the mountains, dry down in Boulder. Of course things could change, but there are no signals that a strong storm will come around these parts anytime soon. BTW, I am a meteorologist but focus on mountain snow forecasting and answer all kinds of comments/questions on my site: www.ColoradoPowderForecast.com

Brad - thanks for the mention! To clarify, Resort Technology Partners is the company that created the RealSki iPhone app. Many of the folks at RTP came from Vail Resorts, but they are independent now. I just downloaded the Vail augmented reality trail map and will put it to the test on Thursday AFTERNOON (Thursday morning is reserved for powder, as there are no friends or augmented reality apps to slow you down on a powder morning:-)

fbog - good point about Utah. They generally get the highest amount of light powder when comparing California, Utah, and Colorado. But Colorado is great for the variety of resorts sprinkled across the state. No matter the storm path, usually at least some area in Colorado gets decent snow. Utah can sometimes miss storms that dump on Colorado. In general, though, you're right on.

Sunset was at 7:03pm, so it was likely low light at 7pm, but not pitch black.
