I think Beachmap is AWESOME! great idea, where everyone can contribute --
an excellent application for wiki technology if there ever was one!

when I first heard about this several weeks ago, I added a beach in Duluth, MN --
Park Point -- where a lot of surfing takes place (including the annual Cold Water
Surf Fest last week), and I see someone else added another beach on Lake Superior
after I did....but there are lots more that could still be added, especially on the
lake's North Shore, where the biggest/best surf spots are located...

by the way, did you know legendary waterman Tom Blake was raised in northern
Wisconsin, on the south shore of Lake Superior? that's where he learned his love
of the water, and first ventured out on a long paddleboard.....before he went on
to Hawaii and made such an impact on the sport of surfing back in the '30s,
'40s, and '50s

Seth, I think there are different reasons for *established* small businesses to blog vs. startups, and I suspect your panel was focused on the former. For established firms, reasons for blogging vary hugely depending on what business or market you're in, your position in it, competitive landscape, etc, your marketing strategy, who your audience is and their online usage, and, especially, the passion and dedication of the people who will blog in your firm, and their commitment to it ongoing.

hey, Seth -- yeah I was there and Twittered it -- the fact they're letting in 10,000 for the beta (that's a lot!) must mean they're betting those sample apps will now happen pretty fast...so, I s'pose the race is on to be among the first apps featured on their site

but, you're right -- couldn't they do one or two quickie examples themselves to get peoples' motors started?
