I feel that "oil" is too simple. I would have said it's about power and control, and that when you possess the worlds largest hammer, every problem takes on the appearance of a nail.

It is not just people of middle-eastern origin whose lives are important only when useful to those who seek power. White North Americans are just as expendable.

There are certainly issues regarding discrimination against Muslims in the U.S., but it's not that cartoonishly explicit.

Could have fooled me. http://maxblumenthal.com/2011/03/anti-muslim-hate...

While the colonization of land is indeed prohibited, it is not clear to me at all that settlers can be forced off their homes under international law. This is very different than the right of Palestinians to return home. In fact, International law does not allow expelling people when returning home. Instead, it states that if one's home is occupied then you are entitled to a similar home in the same area. International law does not make refugees in the name of justice. It does not decide who's claim is most valid. It is one of the reasons why the Zionist argument that their claims pre-date the Palestinian claims is completely bogus. Even if it is true (which it is not) keeping the Palestinians from their homes is still against international law.

I am not an expert on international law, but I don't think that what David_F said was correct. If it is correct I would really like to see what international law says. You, on the other hand, are extrapolating which is a definite no-no.

It also is not just that Max managed to film such racists. It is the response of Zionists to such a film - anything but recognition and desire for change. I don't hear Mike - or other Zionist supporters saying - how can we change Israel to remove such hate.

1. I thought that the Palestinians have already said that the settlers can remain. To flip this over - would the settlers leave just as the French settlers left Algeria?

2. Are you sure that under international law there would be justification for forceful removal? I'd like to hear what section says this as I would have guessed that the opposite was true.

My experience has been the opposite. Anti-semitism means, they won't let us join their club. Well, that is prejudice of a sort

Don't be silly. It is exactly prejudice. You may not like those who are "rich". That's fine, but it does not change the nature of discrimination. What you are describing is the systematic attempt to prevent Jews from reaching positions of responsibility - to keep Jews out of the halls of power. Jews are not discriminated against because there is not a Jewish president. They would be if it was impossible for there to be a Jewish president. When country clubs say "No Jews" that is clearly an indication that it is impossible for there to be a Jewish president. It is not just the rich Jews that are discriminated. It is all Jews - Jews are expected to know their place and not bother others.

virtually all of the Jews I know, and I know scores, are worth a lot of money Get real. Obviously you know nothing about Jews. If the information you get about Jews is from the paper you will only get information about "newsworthy" people. Poor people tend to not be "newsworthy" - including Jews.

The US has a long history of discrimination. The major form of that discrimination has been based on skin colour. My mother grew up in a sundown town. [N**** don't let the sun...] In such towns Jews were not liked either - not to the same extent as those with dark skin color.

The obstacles Jews have faced is that we have been treated as outsiders [even as we have treated people of colour as outsiders]. Equality means being able to fully take part in all the American dream. As you inadvertently note - the American dream was for whites - and Jews were not considered white.

Are Jews more successful than other people? Quite possibly. It comes from a strong cultural emphasis on education. Poor families would scrimp and save to send one member off to university. My impression of some other poor cultures is that the emphasis is on getting jobs even at the expense of education. Jews are not the only group which stands out. Within Christianity there is the Religious Society of Friends. (Their numbers are small enough that their success no longer stands out) As one example - [blockquote]The Quaker Fry, Cadbury and Rowntree families dominated the British chocolate industry for two centuries.[/blockquote] Within Islam there are the Ismailis who were recently expelled from Uganda - looking rather like some of the treatment Jews have received in the past.

The topic is Israel - a regional superpower. It is amazing how when the topic is Israel, people tend to talk about Israel - isn't it. You'd think we would talk about something else. It's been 60 fucking years of Israel getting a pass. It's over.

[sarcasm]The most amazing thing about this site is that even we Jews are getting into the act. You can't expect the goy [connotations that are possibly pejorative] to say the right thing with we Jews leading them astray.

Even Jews are getting into the persecution of Jews! [/sarcasm] I don't buy the Jews as the winner of the olympic gold medal in persecution. You're living on past glories. You will need to come up with some other purpose in your life.

I'm not an expert on this, but my impression is that Jews that left Arab states left for a wide variety of reasons. For example, after the Lavon Affair I believe that Egypt expelled its Jews. Israel has confirmed the Lavon Affair.

There is also Naeim Giladi who claims that Jews were terrorized into leaving Iraq with a lot of help from the Zionists.

Some also left for the better life, or to help build the Jewish "utopia". The Palestinians left to avoid being slaughtered.

Just for information purposes - all Jews who were refugees have a right to return home - even if it was due to Zionist terrorism.
