Unlike circumcision which is a COSMETIC choice, and has been proven to not have ANY medical advantage but biased studies about STDs because Americans don't know how to care for their foreskin, Gender Identity Disorder is a legitimate medical condition whose sure is gender reassignment. To compare circumcision to gender reassignment is insulting and ignorant.

Comparing Gender reassignment to cosmetic surgery like a tummy tuck or liposuction is insulting and minimizing a legitimate medical condition as defined by the AMA AND internationally understood. Most Transgender people struggle from earliest childhood with their gender. How privileged you cisgendered (Look it up on google) people are to assume that it is just some cosmetic procedure people go through like an eye lift. Must be nice to feel like you were assigned the appropriate gender at birth. To know your place in society. To understand what the other kids are doing. It is a well-known fact that gender reassignment is the only cure for this MEDICAL CONDITION. It's not just a bunch of delusional crazy people who think they are this or that. How about instead of paying for lots of E.R. Visits and anti-depressants and anxiety meds, you help people avoid the need for these meds and therapy? Saying you don't support it because you think it's the same as getting a tummy tuck shows your ignorance about the subject, your bigotry and your cisgendered privilege. It's not about "Attaching genitals to your forehead" as Juan said or even attaching genitals at all. It's about finally understanding WHO you are, living in a body that better matches what your brain tells you it should look like, and thriving in society. Helping people feel better about themselves and helping them live a full life should not be up for public debate. It's a medical condition. NOT MENTAL. I would give ANYTHING to have been born in the right body and have a childhood full of joy and adolescent era full of the appropriate things. Not suicidal thoughts, second guessing myself and hating life. Why shouldn't we help everyone live this way? It's all about making a better city as a whole, not just what YOU need. I don't have kids and never will, but I always am happy to pay property taxes and help support the school because those kids are our future prosperity. Also, judging a Mayor because of his sexuality is ridiculous. if he was Clinton everyone would be patting him on the back for getting a BJ under his desk. Grow-up, PDX.
