second that. Oakland Athletics. I was a born and raised in the Bay Area, or "the Big BA" as Timberland likes to call it. I actually celebrated my 7th birthday at the Oakland Coliseum and got my name on the old school pixelated jumbotron. Yeah, I was kinda a big deal.

Soul City Blog : We Need Healthy Heretics (pt. 1)

it's a tough balance... a lot of time heretics are categorized, pigeonholed, et cetera as the trouble makers, the ill-contented... it is this stereotype that hurts us "healthy heretics" who see those outside the church as the ones who need the Christ (not the other way around). I have said before that heresy is contrary opinion to orthodox belief and this isn't a bad thing... as sometimes our orthodoxy (traditional opinions/beliefs) need to be questioned, prodded, and pushed to evolve to meet a postmodern orthopraxy (the practice of our belief). So. I guess my overall point is this... if the renegades on your church staff are pointing toward Christ, just in a different direction than you... I would listen to them and not fire them. Just my thoughts! Love what you guys are doin!

geekCouch : David Bazan Unleashes a New Song: Bless This Mess

"But the main lyrical gimmick is sort of a self-conscious and hopeful interpretation of the Beatitudes, which I have an uneasy relationship with as the narrative tends to illustrate." - David Bazan, in an article here: http://stereogum.com/the-gum-drop/song.php?tid=82... that is cool... he did an artistic interpretation of the Sermon on the Mount... much like Joel Limpic's project "Brand New Mountain Speeches" of which I had a helping hand in, which was a communal artistic response to the sermon on the mount. (http://www.joellimpic.com) anyway, Matt 5-7 is a lot to handle and the beatitudes can crank out some heavy shit... as you wrestle with what God wants from us.
