Congress should be forbidden from giving complex legistlation deceiving names like "freedom of choice" act or "no child left behind" etc...it makes it too easy to demonize legislators who vote against legislation that is lousy but has a fancy name. For example, someone can write a bill allowing confiscation of all handguns and call it the "schoolchildren's protection act"...who wants to go on record as being against protectng schoolchildren? All congressional bills should be referred to by number only.

1) change the Constitutional age limits for representative to age 40, senator to age 50 and president to age 55 (from current values of 25, 30 and 35 years). This would force people to be in the private sector for a portion of their careers, rather than spend 60 years in Congress. The age limits were written in the 1700s when lifespans were shorter.
2) Require that campaign funds for any election be raised ONLY in the district or state where the election is held and contributed only by the residents of those areas. This would prevent Californian celebrities from deciding who is elected to the senate in Minnesota, and would free politicians from the tyranny of their national party machines and make them beholden only to their constituents. Right now, we are not governed by Congress but by a handful of non-elected party operatives who set the agenda and then threaten to withhold national party/pac funds from any member who dares go against the party's wises, even if it conflicts with the wishes of their constituents.
