My commentary on this article is that the author only talks about a specific type of crime, and that isn't the one that the people of Arizona are upset about. The people of Arizona expect the Federal Government to enforce existing immigration laws, which they are not doing. I believe that most citizens of Arizona know that LEGAL immigration is an important part of the state economy, and welcome immigrants who come to the state, work hard, pay taxes and become part of the community. Personally, after living in Arizona and having immigrant neighbors, I think that for the most part they're good people who work hard, go to Church, and are nice to be friends with. I don't have any animosity for the people who come here illegally, but I also believe the system needs to be fixed to allow these folks to enter the country legally and let them be full tax paying, voting members of our society. My problem is with the government's failure to fix an obviously broken system to give these people the chance to become Americans like my ancestors did. I probably just imagined Rape Trees, Drop Houses and the Drug Gang activity along the border too. It sounds like you're in favor of LEGAL immigration, and I am in favor of legal immigration as well. What I am not in favor of is letting anyone and everyone walk over the border in defiance of U.S. Immigration Law. Just because they don't keep track of that statistic doesn't mean it's not a problem in Arizona and other southern border states.
