Discover Buenos Aires - Expat Life in Argentina : Argentina Increases Fee for Overstaying Tourist Visa

Sophia, if I understand you correctly, you're in Argentina now and your tourist visa is expired? You have a flight back to Sweden on 22 February? If so, you just need to pay the fine at the airport when you leave the country. They can not hold you here, just make you pay the fine.

The 30 Mbps has been much better for me. I have some occasional issues when downloading at the same time, but it is better.

LOL, yeah, but they are not always the easiest sell here. For some reason, MercadoLibre is difficult to sell things on. I think a lot has to do with the basic level of distrust in society here.

Immigration will not renew if it is already expired, so I'd say stay and just pay the fine. Traveling in the country will not be a problem, but when going to Uruguay you'll be made to pay. Coming back in you'll get another 90 days.

Vonage worked good with my 6 Mbps line. The only time I had problems was when I was downloading something else and as soon as I stopped that it worked perfectly. I did move my Vonage router in front of my wireless router, which also helped. I now have Fibertel Evolution which is 30 Mbps. I can download and use Vonage at the same time with no problem.

Discover Buenos Aires - Expat Life in Argentina : Getting a Brazilian Visa in Buenos Aires

You have to pay in cash, and it is just one fee. The visa fee is a reciprocal fee that Brazil charges because the US charges Brazilians to enter the country.

I would suggest that you just overstay the visa and pay the $300 pesos when you leave in July. You can pay the fee at Uruguay too, but you would have to go several times to keep it current. Just overstay and pay once...

Discover Buenos Aires - Expat Life in Argentina : Bubba's Smokin' Barbecue Joint

Gabi - I agree the meat tends to be good here, but this is about much more than BBQ sauce. It's a whole style of cooking and flavoring. It's definitely some good variety to the flavors here. Plus, what happens when all the grass-fed beef is gone and everything comes from a feed lot? Supposedly that is underway and will drastically change the taste of the meat.

Discover Buenos Aires - Expat Life in Argentina : Holy Inflation!

Bobby, I definitely have to respond to this one... Chinese food: I've been to Barrio Chino many times. There is decent food, but come on, great? No way. You can get good Chinese food anywhere in the States. Here, you can get decent Chinese food if you go to Barrio Chino. Try one of the random Chinese places anywhere else...ughh. Compared to NYC it's much worse. Sushi: It is horrible here. The only decent sushi comes from the very high-end places - Osaka, Paru, etc. And when I mentioned cream cheese, I was pointing out that I was happy that the sushi back in the States did not have any. Here it is a requirement to have cream cheese in everything. That is not sushi. How about something other than salmon? Red tuna - almost nonexistent here. Toro? Spicy roll? Crab? Lobster? Nada. Maybe your 6 years here have dulled your senses. Peanut Butter: I admit you can find peanut butter in Barrio Chino. It all has sugar. There is no organic, natural peanut butter anywhere. Like I said, some of these are whiny expat complaints, but I was pointing out the many things we'll miss from the States. My Argentine wife would be in full agreement with all of these. Argentina has it's benefits too, they're just getting more and more expensive to appreciate. I just paid $27 pesos for half a kilo of strawberries and 6 bananas this morning. I'm sure I could have gotten that cheaper in the States.
