I have "Protested" within the NPS-held Cape Hatteras National Seashore, (IE: Handing out informational flyers concerning Beach Access to motorists), and I had to apply to the NPS for a PERMIT to do so. I was also given strict instructions as to where I could/couldn't stand, the hours I could be there, and that I could not leave the designated area to "canvass" drivers, PERIOD, under penalty of law. The National Park Service, (NPS), operates Cape Hatteras National Seashore as well, and required myself and many others to apply for and be granted PERMITS to simply hand out informational flyers concerning Beach Access within that park. No permit and you were subject to arrest. How they can deny MY free speech unless I get a permit, but allow these marxist scum to run about freely speaks volumes as to just how high up the collusion concernig OWS goes.

"Step Three: Keep Mocking These Idiots:" I can tell you from personal experience that THIS WORKS! In my hometown of Richmond, VA, we have our own "occupation" going on. These occuposers started a website that invited comments on each posting, until a very small group of 2 or 3 conservatives got some comments of their own involved. Nowadays, these "Protectors of Free Speech" do not allow comments of any kind, as it was damaging their brand. They simply cannot take any dissent without falling into a temper tenatrum. Poke 'em in the eye and watch 'em cry, as they deserve no less.

If claims of "Vanity" need to be leveled at Civil War-Era generals, then we simply must include Union General George McClellan, and his actions/inactions in the "Battle of the Seven Days", part of the "Peninsula Campaign". McClellan had his Army of the Potomac within sight of Richmond in 1862. Faced by a substantially smaller Confederate Army and a flooded Chickahominy River, McClellan eventually retreated his Grand Army back down the James River after failing to take the city in only a week's time. You see, old George had other priorities, namely trying to polish himself through his war efforts toward what would become an utterly failed attempt to run against Lincoln in the 1864 election. The Civil War COULD have ended with the fall of Richmond in 1862-63, had McClellan been more interested in actually winning, instead of being more concerned with "Not Losing" his grande armie and looking like the failure that he actually was. Mr. Publius, I generally agree with you on just about every subject, but I believe you are sorely off-base here. Before we place blame in hindsight, let us look hard at the whole picture.

And the day before yesterday in 1865, my great-great grandfather saw his tailors shop in Richmond burned to the ground as he left with Bobby Lee while part of the "Home Guard". He was captured at the battle of Saylors Creek prior to Appomatox and spent almost a year in a Federal Prison in Maryland. I doubt Lee's men would have continued to follow him if his driving force was "vanity", unless of course the entire south was afflicted with said malady. From where I type this would have been within earshot of the battle of Yellow Tavern, as our family still inhabits the former confederate capital. You literally cannot turn in a circle around here and not see reminders of those dark days. Our city also became an occupied war trophy on this day, and would stay so for several years. A reality few US cities can claim, or would want to. Let us pause for a moment and honor the bravery of the dead on both sides of America's most tragic war.

Sorry, but I won't differentiate between leaders and followers if they both strive to achieve the same outcome, which in some extreme cases is the destruction of capitalistic society and devolution of the human race. "Sweet and Kind" = Naive and easily manipulated, and in some cases their actions are criminal, regardless of motive, good intentions, or admirable past deeds. "Good People" the world over have followed other cultists off the ends of the earth many times before, and the Green Movement is just another modern example of this behavior. We can only hope that your friends of whom you speak will one day grow out of their immaturity and see the world through new eyes, lest they become fodder for the monsters that seek our destruction.

Jeff, this passage literally brought me to tears: "Nothing about 12-year -old Tamar’s screams upon walking into the bloody massacre, or little Yishai sitting in clothes drenched with his parents’ blood crying: ‘Where’s my daddy? Where’s daddy? I want my daddy." As a Father of a 4 year-old, I cannot imagine my own child, or any other child for that matter, living though such an ordeal and not being marred for life. If the MSM was not moved by this part of the story, then they simply cannot be moved. God help us all.
