I've got some really exciting stuff in mind for that show. I've recently been introduced to an online university where people can create courses and sell them. I'm not talking about it because although it's very popular and has a *ton* of courses available (and a *ton* of users), it hasn't been discovered by our marketer friends yet. Virgin territory, so to speak. I'm hoping to put together some free BABP video podcasts that can lead into some more in-depth courses that I can put up for sale on that site. Y'know, with all the free time I have.

whatdoesjoethink.com : Handicapping the 2012 Affiliate Summit Pinnacle Awards

I love Kim to death, but Brad Waller was the guy that unofficially invented affiliate marketing - before Amazon. Slighting him again on the Legend award is like not letting Elvis into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. IMO, neither Amazon nor Overstock deserve the Merchant award simply for their treatment of affiliates in the nexus tax issue. TinyPrints gets it by default - which is kinda sad to say because they're also extremely deserving and would get my vote even if Amazon and Overstock weren't persona non grata with me on these issues. For the blogger... I don't know Mr Green at all. Sam, I love Sam too...but Tricia has been consistent and I think the award should go to her this time (in the absence of any opinion about Mr Green). I'd like to see Sam win next year for the effort that he's been putting in for the past few months, though. Great, great stuff. Advocate is a toss-up to me, too. Tim made a huge statement by moving his company. Rebecca spends her days flying all around the country meeting with congress members in every state that tries to pass the nexus tax. And Brian Littleton is Brian F&#&ing Littleton - there are few classier and more deserving of the Advocate award. Toss-up. They all deserve it. Lastly, Manager... yikes. I honestly don't know. Another toss-up? For me, maybe.

QAQN : Contest: Claim Your Affiliate Summit West 2012 Gold Pass!

The contest is over, and thanks for entering! We actually have one more to give out - only four winners this time. Devin, sadly, can't be a winner because he's too young to attend Summit. I should have made age a requirement of entry, but my hands are tied on this one: passes are non-transferable and you have to be 21 to get into Summit. The winners have been emailed with the special pass codes, and I hope to meet you all in Vegas!

No Publisher Needed : Writers Are Snobs

Artists, in my experience, are worse. About four years ago I was going to write a book (self published, you'd be proud) about a certain print on demand company. After I introduced myself to their community and told them what I would be doing, they treated me like a sub-human. I was accused of trying to profit off of them (somehow) and I was called, most memorably, a snake oil salesman. Why? Because the book was to be called "Success with Imagekind.com", a follow-up to my moderately successful (and also self-published!) "Success with CafePress.com" and these artists decided that I was more interested in sales than in the high cultural value of art. It never occurred to them that they were part of the Imagekind community and Imagekind was a venue for *selling art*. It's not like I went to a community of artists that had no interest in making money (so I thought) because ostensibly, these cats were there to make money! The times that I offered advice for maximizing sales in their forums... anytime I even came close to suggesting that someone's art wouldn't sell, I was assaulted with "IT'S ART AND ALL ART IS VALID!!!!!" - which is true. But not all art is salable. Their snobbery about the craft got in the way of sales. Not everything needs to be sold, but when you're trying to sell art, it helps not to shoot yourself in the foot by calling the marketers trying to help you rotten snake oil salesmen.

I haven't... I've got Comic Collector, like I said, but I've also got Book Collector by that same company. I don't have enough of anything else to warrant tracking (I got rid of probably 70% of my CDs that I've owned over the years). Good recommendation, though!

QAQN : Be a Better Podcaster #13 - 50 Ways to Leave Your Web Host

For me, it's about not keeping the eggs in one basket. If your web host goes down for an extended period, or if it suddenly raises its fees, or if you need to leave them quickly for whatever reason, having your registrations somewhere else is helpful. Let's say I'm on Bluehost (which I am) and my registrations are on Dreamhost (which some are). If I had to leave Bluehost, I could open a hosting account at HostGator, get the website set up, and then simply update the DNS records at Dreamhost to point to HostGator instead of Bluehost. The whole thing might take a couple of hours. If I had hosting and registration at Bluehost and had to leave Bluehost, I would have to move not only the sites, but the registrations - and if you've never had to move registrations from one provider to another you're lucky. It can be a real pain and take a lot more time. Now, there could be reasons why I'd want to move my domains off of Dreamhost - if they suddenly double their registration prices, for example - but the odds that I'll have a problem with my web hosting are far greater than the odds I'll have an issue with my registrar.

HijiNKS ENSUE - A Geek Webcomic : Splitster

Splitting the company isn't short sighted at all, in fact, it's rather smart and forward thinking. The clue is that they gave the *old* method the new name. DVDs by mail, that's now Qwikster, while streaming is Netflix, right? And when DVDs by mail starts to fail as a business model - and it will, it's only a matter of time - they can kill off that brand without harming the more established Netflix brand. If they hadn't split, the company would lose a significant amount of value in the long term as the DVDs by mail side of the house withered and died. Now, they can avoid that and keep the Netflix brand stable. I'm a streaming customer, not a physical media customer, so I'm sticking with Netflix.

I'll 86 the bacon, all right... 86 it right into my belly. Mmmmm.... bacon. The vegan dinner? The one followed by a night at the Brazilian steakhouse with 22 different styles of meat and nary a vegetable in sight? :D The Vegan Smackdown evening was very good, I won't say that it wasn't. Wade and I talked about that on an episode of Inside Internet Marketing that will be posted later on today (I'll update this with a link later on).

You know, you're right, and I should have thought about that - the stuff that makes you sick isn't on the outside of the meat or on the surface of the grill... the temperatures there are well over 500 degrees, I believe. That's got to burn off anything nasty. Okay, I'm down for street meat next time lol And thanks - I do feel like it was a pretty minimal gain. It was pretty easily worked off, too. Just now I weighed in at 234.2, which is well below my day-before-New-York weigh-in weight and getting closer to my pre-traveling-for-two-weeks weight.

QAQN : Be a Better Podcaster #8 - Working Live, Working Alone and Working with Music

Thanks Ileane! I just got back from two weeks out of town (essentially - I had two days at home right in the middle but I might as well have been gone since I got no shows done!) and I jumped back into my shows yesterday. After messing up the intro on the first one a few times, I got back into the swing of things - and I wouldn't trade the live experience at this point, I really wouldn't. It's a lot of fun for me, despite the flaws in chat, delay and things like that. Mixlr, Spreaker and the others are really new services, so I'm giving them a *lot* of leeway that I wouldn't give a more established service, like UStream, for example. They're growing and adding features and squashing bugs almost daily it seems. Thanks for stopping by, it's always nice to see you around :)

QAQN : 5 Things You Don't Know About Usenet

SABnzbd is for downloading binaries, not for reading groups. Think of it as a P2P client, kind of like BitTorrent. For reading groups like comp.lang* you need a program that will access all the groups, like Unison. (that's a Mac program, you'll want to Google 'windows usenet reader' if you're on a PC). If you get a reader up and running and still can't access comp.lang* it'll be because some servers don't "stock" all the groups. I've checked with Giganews just now and they've got access to the full array of comp.lang* groups - so if your free server doesn't have them, you could give Giganews a try.
