GeekTyrant : THE HOBBIT Release Date Pushed back to 2012?

Look at this way, either we get a kickass Hobbit movie, or we get to fight zombies IRL. Win-win situation.

GeekTyrant : Updates on Films FORBIDDEN PLANET, SILVER SURFER and WORLD WAR Z

Aside from the sheer size and scope of World War Z, it seems like a pretty obvious blockbuster. Once the script is ready to roll and you find enough actors (really hoping for a truly international cast). District 9 showed how you can visually portray this kind of a film using "first hand accounts" "news footage" and more traditional narrative story telling to tell a grand story, now they just have to make it.

GeekTyrant : The Full ALICE IN WONDERLAND Poster has Been Unveiled

Haha! I see the resemblance! I don't know if its Burton "banking" on Depp so much as the Disney promotional team. For them Depp is a known quantity vs. promoting whoever it is that plays Alice. I know I could look it up, but my first impression from the promotional material so far is that its JOHNNY DEPP in Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland. My question is, what is Tim Burton's version going to offer that someone might have missed in the many adaptations?

GeekTyrant : THE EVIL DEAD Being Re-released on The Big Screen!

Now that digital projectors are becoming more and more common, alongside high definition transfers, I would hope that there was something of a resurgence of re-releasing classic films to theaters.

I've heard good things about Cemetery Man for a long time, but never gotten a chance to see it. But all these films look to be at least different from the usual horror nonsense. Good list.

GeekTyrant : unofficial HEAVY METAL movie poster

Not a bad mockup. I don't get the woman's(?) facial expression, its a little goofy. In my ideal world they would do a poster like the awesome covers from the 70s. You know, before "tits and dragons" became the only kind of image they would put on the front. Not that the magazine didn't have sexual stories or themes. Total killer "dream" artist for this poster: Moebius. It just makes sense.

GeekTyrant : 5 Favorite Incredibly Gory Horror Films

Agree, the Evil Dead's worst moments can't compare to most of what's up in the list. Of the movies that I've seen on this list, I would say its pretty sound. Probably pound for pound among the goriest films out there. I've never seen a Fulci film, but I want to.

I'll just say, the dinner seen in Dead Alive is probably the most nauseating part of the whole movie. I can watch them run over zombies with a lawn mower all day, but that tapioca.... gross! Also, the poster art for Dead Alive is some of the worst, it has nothing to do with the film.

GeekTyrant : 5 Historic Films that helped Pave the Way for Filmmaking

If you're digging into the deep end here, you really should mention "Faust" and "The Passion of Joan of Arc." Two epic films that are still running circles around films made today. Passion of Joan of Arc has some of the strongest cinematography ever. Faust has amazing special effects and an epic scale. I know its kind of a weird one, but if you're talking about film making, you should include MASH. Robert Altman basically just went off and did his own thing, pissed off a lot of people and still made a hit out of it.

GeekTyrant : Facebook Movie THE SOCIAL NETWORK gets Greenlit

David Fincher? really? Did something happen? I hope he sobers up or comes to and steps away from this freaking made-for-tv movie. 47 million dollars? how can a film like this cost more than District 9? There is no part of this news that sounds promising- its just stupidity top to bottom. Its about a freaking website which, in my estimation is a step below doing a movie based on a videogame.

GeekTyrant : AVATAR Movie Teaser is the Most Viewed Trailer Ever on Apple.com

Please don't start bowing before the avatar alter before the movie actually comes out. The trailer was rather interesting... but the hype surrounding this film is/was almost too much to live up to. Its a movie, sure it took a long time to come about, but its still flickering images on a screen- not exactly the next phase of human evolution. Now, with that in mind, I like a director like Cameron who goes into hiding until he's created a movie that he is proud of. Someone who isn't going to compromise, and more often than not has come out with something special. I still have high hopes for this movie, but I don't have any illusions about it being anything more than that.

GeekTyrant : Warner Bros/DC Loses Some Rights to SUPERMAN

First off, its weird to think that merely parts of his origin story can be broken up. But I guess the Seigel's want to hold on to whatever part they can of Superman. Second, this is a huge reason behind why I'm convinced that once the original author of a work dies, the property should be released into the public domain. (not that that will ever happen). I highly doubt that Superman is really going anywhere, however. WB is going to make sure the Seigel family is well compensated, and while they may not buy back the rights, they will probably license whatever pieces they need- or simply avoid any references to his origin story. Its rather strange to consider a Superman story that does not in some way reference Krypton- but its not impossible. Either way, Supes isn't going anywhere.

GeekTyrant : 30 Crazy Video Game Tattoos!

Also, just want to add that the zapper guns on the hips is rather played out- seen a number of times. And true old schoolers go with the grey gun, not the "safe" orange one!

GeekTyrant : Official Movie Poster for LEGION

Saw the trailer before District 9... this movie looks really stupid. I didn't 'get it' from that: god is trying to punish mankind by sending angels to kill people and then there's some rogue angel (or demon? fallen angel? what?) that is trying to protect Jesus Jr. in the womb... wut? (so you're fighting against god? how does that make you a good guy...)

GeekTyrant : Movie Review: FUNNY PEOPLE

Have to say that this movie was 50/50 with me. The film starts out very strongly, but around halfway through I felt like the movie continued on almost needlessly. The core of Sandler and Rogen actually makes for a good story. Kind of in line with the classic "Its a Wonderful Life" line: "No man is a failure who has friends." Sandler, the bitter "success story" and Rogen as the eager up and comer, that's a classic pairing. Unfortunately, I feel like Apatow wanted to devote more time to his family (Mann and their two daughters) and drove the movie in a direction that simply caused the whole story to drag. The cast does a very good job, but Apatow has always gotten good performances from the supporting cast. I like the first half because not only does it deal with the massive situation of facing mortality, but also with the rather isolated and bitter life of a professional comedian. The second half strays from both elements.

GeekTyrant : TRON LEGACY Musical Score from Daft Punk

The original soundtrack wasn't all that "punchy" and I have to say I'm pleasantly surprised to see Daft Punk doing a major motion picture. I urge everyone to check out Interstella 5555 to get a taste of what they can do. This track definitely needs more work, but I can dig it.
