clay lowe : high heels

Because men like them and they make our legs look great. Tho' most of us wear normal shoes getting to and from our destination before pulling out the shoes that are just for show. Not always possible unfortunately.

Work(s) in Progress : Quiet

Hi Kyra, Irene, Chris Glad to see so many other women feeling cautious about Palin. I'd love to support a women for president or VP. Just want the RIGHT one. And Kyra I think it was god wanting that oil pipeline that threw me. Holy wars are as old as time, but oil pipelines??! My dream ticket for 2004 would have been Condaleezza Rice & Colin Powell. Smart People. Strong Leaders. A bit conservative for me, but smart more than ideological. I think they'd have done the right things. Chris, I"ll have to dig up that SNL. Thanks! Cathy

Work(s) in Progress : Cruise wrap-up

Thanks Kyra & Irene. I appreciate your in person thoughts. Thank you. Had a funny experience today buying a coffee at Whole Foods. The guy behind the counter quite spontaneously said to me "I love your hair." Blog reader perhaps? Nonetheless, I found his comment to be somewhat reassuring. Amazing how 1 strongly negative comment can be so unsettling, even in a sea of generally good feedback.

Thanks Irene, Mel & Kyra. Wasn't sure whether to blog about this but since I try to capture all of my major life events here this is certainly among the "biggest" and most impactful. So Mel...that whole "date night" twitter you made the other day...egad, don't do what I do. Forms turned in this AM. Few more forms to file but the Judge should sign the decree on Oct 20. I'm glad that it is so easy and yet it seems wrong somehow that it is.

Work(s) in Progress : S&M in the office

I think a Kindle would be great for our upcoming CRUISE. My friend just got one and he loves it. I'm so looking forward to meeting you in person. Hope you lose the cane by then. I ponder the gender thing. In science, most of the men really only care about the quality of your ideas so gender is such a non-issue they get confused when other people bring it up. I realize it was not always this way, but at least in life science...women have it easy most places. It was funny reading these books. I realized that when I am working with mentors that my school girl definitely comes out. People like to help the school girl. I don't think this is unique to women. When I did martial arts they talked about "emptying your cup" so that you could learn more. The school girl has an empty cup, looking for wisdom. But she's not so confidence inspiring in a crisis. Then you need your goddess, queen or amazon...depending.

Work(s) in Progress : Transparency

Aye Clay. It's fun and interesting. And if I had to pick, I generally prefer transparency. Given the cameras everywhere I think we will all soon be living public lives, like it or not. I look forward to your stories!

Kyra I completely understand why with your young kids you'd want & need to know this. I just also know that quite a lot of folks go to jail wrongly convicted & then add this on and it seems a bit much. Sure, most convicted did indeed commit the crime, but this current system does not seem to allow for redemption, change, growth. Their crime will haunt them always. And yes, so much information is available. Have you tried pipl? http://www.pipl.com/ Need someone's birthday? divorce decree? All there. All free. Of course my high school friend, Tom Jones, that I lost when he and his wife moved states a few years ago; pfft, useless. If only I could remember his birthday....

Mel
It was great. Just what I needed. Aye on the chatterers. I don't mind a bit of friendly conversation but I don't want to know the foibles of their other clients or their life stories. Huzzah on the job finding. Niche company sounds like much more fun. Hope to make it across the big pond one day to see you again!

Thanks Kyra.

Aaron, Brad was outstanding. Highlight of the event for sure!
I know we filmed everything and that generally a DVD is burned from the event. I'm not sure how long that takes. If I can get Brad's and the Business School's permission perhaps we can YouTube it.
Work(s) in Progress : Whatever floats your boat

Aye it's good. So many universities are going toward an ideal of "inclusive excellence." I think they are our true melting pots these days.
But still it did catch me off guard to learn my female friend was becoming my male friend essentially overnight. Even though our society grows more tolerant every day, I imagine this public switch required a lot of courage for her to become him.

Work(s) in Progress : Iron Man

Ironman still reigns. Just saw the latest Indiana Jones. I was 13 when the first one came out and could have been the gal with the "i love you" eyeshadow in the classroom. He's still rocking the role & it's retained its wholesome campiness but Harrison Ford is no Robert Downey Jr.
Preview for Hellboy sequel looked fun.
