It probably has something to do with the fact that, more often than not, the remake has been worth the trouble and an enjoyable film... sad but true. I mean, we keep going to cinemas. They keep making money from remakes... so they keep remaking stuff. Simple. Try and stop a fanboy from seeing the new Star Trek, though (for example). Never going to happen.

Scream has lasted as one of the classics. Not as good as the original slashers, but a memorable addition to the horror comedy genre. If Dave and Courtney come back for a new one, it has to be regarded as a sequel, dunnit? Reboots should also be complete re-casts. Way to confuse audiences past and present, otherwise.

I agree, it smacks of childish. I guess we have to keep in mind that they're out to sell toys as well. This looks like it belongs on a direct-to-dvd animated series or something.
