One reason the States wanted each Senator to be chosen by the Reps of each State because to further separate powers, so the Federal government would not get to centralized and big like it has become forcing cookie cutter laws and unfunded mandates which might be advantages to some states but harm others.

Nothing wrong with case law when it set precedence against similar cases, but 2 things happened, 1 the Supreme Court wrongly claimed they had jurisdiction in strictly state matters, and 2 they wrongly believe they have the power to "interpret the Constitution, they don't. They only have the power to compare Congressional written laws or Executive orders up against it
