I hope to God that they are hugging their mom. This story broke my heart. i can't even begin to say enough bad things about Josh Powell for doing this. I hope the authorities take this example in hand and deny visitation to people like him.

I've read recent medical articles that says even if you're a carrier that you should do the antibiotics and get rid of it. I wish they'd publicize whether or not that's truly the case.

these hackers are pretty stupid. they aren't going to be very happy when organized crime kidnaps them and forces them to do this for the crime syndicate. They really ought to consider keeping a lower profile.

Joking about a bomb should get him fired, but arresting him for terrorism? Do we really need to pay for this guy to be in jail and to never hold a decent job again because of an arrest record?

no one seems to want to pay attention to the truth that you are writing about. The other issue at work was the Asian market asked US mills to retool to cut the timber to their specs & many refused. The timber companies decided it was more cost effective to ship the timber direct to Asia and cut out the middle man (the mills). Especially as the post WWII tax credits to encourage trade with former adversaries to prevent any future wars. Not to mention the heavy mechanization that occured between the 80s and now. There are machines for use in the forest that can take the place of 8 lumber workers. You can see those machines at the forestry center exhibit. Also, I find it ironic that at the same time the big timber companies did this, that certain political powers said they'd fund the loggers towns because we couldn't let American jobs die but allowed lots of other towns to dry up and blow away by allowing those jobs to be sent overseas and telling them to go retrain.

I don't know if this is the case in Lake O or not, but sometimes local governments get worn down by lawyers of the development or investment firms and sometimes cannot fight the use or sale of land for development. Other times of course I'm sure they are seeing dollar signs that the city/county is going to receive as the taxes on development. In Gresham, the city of Gresham wanted to tag certain parcels as potentially unsafe (on hillsides) but could not after they were repeatedly sued by the developers. The court costs were breaking the city. Gresham also lost the initial battle to keep the area from being developed. Part of the problem in Oregon is that Oregon was divided up into plots without any rhyme or reason and the plots were given away or sold as investments to encourage people to come west. Some of those original plots were pegged as developable from the very beginning without any research or thought put into it. Of course back then I'm sure they didn't forsee the large developments, greed and lack of common sense either. It would sure be nice if people would use their brains. Maybe someone should post a whole bunch of "flood plain" signs in the area?

the money works as a good fire starter, i know back country hikers that take lint & paper towels with them as fire starters. Green frozen twigs don't light easy so you have to have something to help get & keep the fire going. Good thing he had enough cash for the job but I am thinking he might take something different with him next time. Considering where they were show shoeing and falling into the ravine, he was lucky to be able to find or get to a tree to help him shelter & have some fuel. He did a good job taking care of himself while waiting for rescue.

have they checked his thyroid? my mom had an incredibly fat cat that just kept getting fatter even though she was feeding him very little. the vet didn't believe her and the poor cat died from a heart attack caused by a thyroid tumor. I hope they've checked him out thoroughly and that he only needs to lose weight.
