@bdentzy

My mom stayed home until my brother and I were in school. Then she worked outside the home.

I'd often wondered how to differentiate these.  I like the word "favor."  Excellent way to differentiate between the two.  Thanks to both you and Seth Godin for coming up with it and sharing it.

I agree that I see a much higher level of social consciousness and generosity with the 20 - 30 range.  But that is a trend that I was seeing several years ago.  Well before the simplicity of sharing through Facebook and Twitter.  I think these tools more reflect and amplify a trend in the culture than direct it.

I remember the first time I went on a missions trip with our young adults group (over 10 years ago now).  I remember thinking how different the experience in service and missions that teens and young adults were involved with was from my "camp" experiences growing up.  Much more about experiencing and sharing God through service than my previous experiences.

I think that Dennis might be referring to people who "give" to "get." Something like "giving a donation" for "promotional consideration." Like any system, it can be worked if we want to manipulate it.

But I'd say that most are simply generous.

Yes and no. I agree with you that it has increased sharing but I believe that's largely because these technologies decrease the transaction cost of sharing (they make it easier). But what I don't see - at least I don't see it yet - is an increase in the sharing that actually costs us something. Especially the things that cost us a lot. But maybe that will change too. I sure hope so - in me and in our culture at large.

Sounds like they're trying to sell a "magic pill". How often we search for those shortcuts instead of just doing the work.

Wow! Great post. It's a hard word but one that I sure needed to hear.

Thank you for posting this. My preference is definitely Mint. While I've not use all of the options above, I have also tried Thrive, Quicken Online, MoneyTrackin, Wesabe, and Yodlee.
