The report on stuff makes interesting reading, apparently the boat had spent the day firing projectiles at a Jap boat and then was sheltering in a bay when it was suddenly and unexpectedly rammed and sunk. I would not be at all surprised if it just broke apart and sank. Both sides will lie and spin no doubt.
