i think that's fair. i agree with you that it should be judged on a case by case basis, and not put under the banner that anyone who runs for office is automatically courageous because of it. my original point was that running for public office in and of itself CAN be courageous and brave, mostly from the increased public scrutiny for starters.

i mean look at Sarah Palin for example: when she was offered the V.P. slot, she had to have known that rejecting it would've saved her and her family the amount of negativity from the media that she received and that had to weight on her during her decision whether or not to accept it. but she DID accept it, knowing what her and her family were about to go through. that sounds pretty courageous to me.

i agree with you that braving enemy fire to save a wounded friend is indeed courageous; probably the perfect example of it. but there are different degrees and context of courage. the act of running for President can be courageous in and of itself without being taken in the same context that risking one's life to save another life would be.

yes, it takes personal conviction and courage to run for President of the United States, regardless of the ideology of the person running.

when Perry and Gingrich criticize Romney about his time at Bain, they sound like liberals and Democrats. they're going against many things that the Republican Party stands for. it's pretty sad.
