Indeed. It's important, now and then, to add connections on LinkedIn to some of those LION folks. If you know them, awesome; but if they initiate, that sometimes works too. My golden rule is valid either way: don't send me the default message and I'll give you the time of day.

Having a sense who you refer to by the "fickle bunch," that wouldn't be representative of, nor claimed by, the approximate 10 million Twitter account holders. I'm guessing you're referring to a part of the whole, and if that's true, your argument holds less weight.

Presuming this is a public site, then is it for HHS at the top or to include every agency? The more to be included, the better. And if it can be set up to be easily ported to other non-HHS agencies, all the better. Personally, the goal should be to stray away from individual looks and layouts; so as cookie-cutter as you can make it for deployment elsewhere, the better.

You offer the ability to register for upcoming seminars; how about viewing webinars? Alternatively, can the seminars be recorded in audio/video for later playback?

What does an email update mean? When the site has new content or an email newsletter?

You have an RSS button in the footer, not the header. RSS should be top right, ideally.

Nice try, Mike, but while I agree using Twitter as a sales channel is a poor move, technology in lieu of pre-existing supply chain management is a benefit to invest. For instance, doesn't the company use RFID for barcoding and protecting its inventory? Imagine if RFID wasn't an option..back when it wasn't.

Social media marketing may not be the answer for all, but that assumes CERTAIN tools and services, not ALL tools and services. I'm with you on the ubiquity of Zappos and Motrin, so how about email? How about mobile devices? You don't need a cellphone for the same reason you don't need an email address for the same reason you don't need blah blah. Of course you need it because it increases your productivity. Ditto for social media marketing.

Suite101 has been around for years. They used to be swell 10 years ago, then they went downhill. A writer friend recently asked me about her writing for the site, and for similar small print you cited, I shared with her some alarming info. She agreed.
