I was blessed to be able to go to the University of Florida football game last night (free tickets from a friend). The Pride of the Sunshine Marching Band (the UF band), gave a beautiful tribute at halftime. Video link below. Keep in mind that whoever made this video was on the student side, so all of the formations are upside down in this view. The beginning is hard to hear - Taps in echo - because it's two trumpeters, both facing the skybox side of the field (away from the camera). The bagpipes you hear after that were live; he's also on the far side, a black dot of a person just in front of the front line of white band uniforms. Some of .tThe formations you'll see are "9-11-01," "U S A," an eagle eblem and an outline of the nation - again, all upside down from this camera's view. I saw that press conference...or whatever it was....too, and I turned to my husband and said of O, "I know he's talking but all I hear is blah blah blah." Of course, the sound quality was poor for some reason, but I think I would've heard "blah blah blah" regardless.

Which is why I quit using Google. Actually, it was D-Day (June 6) 2+ years ago. Google chose to honor the birthday of Tetris, the video game, in their cute little logo graphics rather than honor the heroes who sacrificed everything not only for OUR freedom but for the freedom of all of Europe and most of the rest of the world, too. Tried Bing, and sure enough, there was a beautiful tribue to D-Day and its heroes. Yes, I know Bing has its problems, too, but I'm choosing the lesser of two evils.

My father, the former HS band director, introduced me to jazz and big band in the womb, I think. I have very fond memories of going to the Jacksonville Jazz Festival every year when I was a teenager, most memorably seeing both George Benson, Spyrogyra and Al Hirt on the same stage. To this day, my 73-year-old dad plays in a local jazz band (http://gvillejazzband.blogspot.com/ - he's not in the photo on the web page, but he is in the band) despite two small strokes, an aortic valve replacement and a recent carotid artery "unclogging." His axe is the 'bone. Thanks for sharing this video, Mr. Moriarty.

"They were afraid for their careers...." and rightly so, it seems. Look at Allen West. Did what he had to do and, in a sense, it did cost him his career. Of course, NOW he's a great Republican representative of Florida in Congress, so it's Romans 8:28 in action, but it seems these officers have good reason to fear.
