Steve also suggests that "the Sierra Club/PLAN-Boulder forum ought to be allowed on Channel 8". Really Steve? With 20+ forums to choose from we should add only your party's forum to channel 8 as required viewing. How is that going to help?

Jimmy Calano suggests the most effective idea. Change our city election to "on" years. When more people vote in Boulder City Council elections, as in 2003 and 2005 when controversial state issues brought out the vote, the City of Boulder ends up with more diverse representation from better qualified individuals.

They left out their negative endorsement of Macon Cowles:

We did not choose to endorse incumbent Macon Cowles this year. We found him to be particularly tone-deaf to his constituents -- who include those who agree and disagree with him -- particularly on the compatible development issue. Several candidates pointed out that at the end of even very heated arguments over new ordinances or changes to the law, we're all still neighbors. Cowles attitude seemed, to us, to be that Boulderites who don't like council decisions can leave the city. That's not the kind of leadership Boulder needs as it faces tough decisions about our future.

The amount of money the main candidates spend individually on a Boulder city council election spans a range of 20-40 cents per registered voter. This is an incredibly low amount when compared to other communities of similar size and is of course perfectly legal according to our incredibly strict campaign finance rules.

We could choose to change the rules if we wanted. I think most reasonable people understand that nobody is buying anything for a few hundred dollars contributed to a few campaigns and the time is wasted. On the other side those that are critical of this fundraising would also lose their easy negative campaign scare tactics and may be hesitant to change the rules as well.

The real "buying" of influence comes from the behind the scenes efforts of our no growth/no change political machine. This will not be changed by minor alterations to campaign finance laws.

Well said KC. Once again the no growth/no change community has demonstrated that the only tool they have in their public policy toolkit is a sledghammer.

I'm curious. Crystal Gray, Lisa Morzel, Macon Cowles, Susan Osborne, Matt Applebaum, Suzy Ageton, Ken Wilson. Which ones are the yuppie clones?
