Tech Cocktail : Startups Aren’t Cool in Hong Kong

I'm not surprised by this story at all, probably because I am Chinese. A reason underlying this at what was hinted at is the cultural differences and the pressures of "saving face", which points towards why people in HK don't respect startup culture.

Ryan Waggoner : How to build discipline and brainwash yourself with the Greatest Secret in the World

I'd second Ryan's thoughts on buying the ebook via Amazon Kindle - you can read it on your desktop computer, notebook, iPhone, Android and any other platform you can think of. It cost me about $7 and you can read it instantly after downloading it. - Will Lam

Ryan Waggoner : How to build discipline and brainwash yourself with the Greatest Secret in the World

Hey Ryan! Solid post! Thank you for posting this on HackerNews otherwise I would never stumbled across this gem of a blog post. In any case, your post really resonated with me. "The Greatest Secret in the World" reminded me of another book that I've held close by myself (and in pretty beat up condition after tossing it around the past 3 years) is Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. I've followed that book to the tee and have had fantastic results in terms of building self discipline, belief in oneself, motivation, visualization and the like. I ordered the book via Kindle for my Android phone and I'm only week one.. but I can only imagination the outward manifestations of this book outside of the "inner stuff" that this book drills into your brain. A blog post will shortly follow after week one! Thanks again for writing, Ryan Cheers! - Will Lam

GALVANIZD : Fitness Update #7: P90X Phase 1 Thoughts and Results

Haha, hey David! I've taken some time off from the gym (bad idea because I broke an otherwise awesome habit) to focus on writing.. after that I got sick for like 3 weeks with a damned persistent cough - which spelled the doom of my abs. lol. Anyway, I've been working on a new business model for my website. Let me know when you're back in Toronto and we'll catch up!

GALVANIZD : The Problem with Learning in Business School

Hey Kim! I completely agree with you. Thank you for your feedback on the "American" perspective on the education system. I didn't truly understand "critical thinking" even at the ripe age of 25. I feel that critical analysis and thinking skills should be fostered at a very early age. For the most part, students stumble through grade school all the way to post-secondary without having these fundamental but sorely needed skills to succeed academically. I remember reading an article on the success of the Finnish Education system and their emphasis on critical thinking and problem solving skills - definitely a departure from both the Canadian and American systems. I found this article about the Dallas school board trying to reform and emulate the Finnish eduaction model here http://tr.im/i9vY

Open Mode : The Real Limit Of Social Media

profound and compact post Malcolm. Thank you for writing this. With respect to your question, "In a world where everybody is given the keys to a life of not only survival, but of self-discovery, what are you going to do?", can be a pandora's box in and of itself... I'd anticipate if anyone sees themselves as a bottleneck to their own progress many would shirk and slink away back into their comfort zones of what they perceive as "creating value". This process of questioning their limits and capacity to contribute can paralyze or empower you depending on your mindset.

GALVANIZD : Read 30 books on self-actualization

Hey thanks for the comment IM Legend! I read to expose myself to to new ideas - to learn, grow and apply. You're absolutely right with respect to do the doing. Like I said in my last paragraph of this page, if I've successfully applied only one concept or idea I've learned from a book I've read, the priced I paid for the book was worth every single penny. But what if you didn't know there was a BETTER way of 'doing'? That's why I read :)
