I guarantee if beaverteeth writes a check for $500,000,000 (give or take a hundred mill or two) and becomes OSU's sugar daddy the Beavs will catch up with the ducks in recruiting in 5 years or less. The added bonus is beaverteeth can dictate who's hired, fired, and what uni's they wear.
Hey PNG,
While revenue is most important, recruiting shouldn't be discounted. The opportunity to play in the LA market and recieve exposure in a recruit's backyard as well as some Beaver players to play in front of friends and family is big. Care to comment?
It seemed that in the limited action McCants had last year, he was running downhill with more authority. Ball security seems to be an issue he needs to work on, too, but I'm looking forward to him pounding the ball while Quizz takes a breather.
Cliff, regarding the pot for a cab ride: People keep bringing it up and it may have happened, but the matter was dropped if memory serves for lack of evidence or lack of credibility of the accuser or something like that. Do you think as a journalist it would be fair, if you insist on bringing it up, that you should use the word "alleged" or "accused"? I get tired of hearing this story like it's based on fact. Am I missing something or is my memory faulty? Thanks and keep up the good work.
You're right on Brooks about the turning point of OSU football. Many people might say the '98 Civil War, and I couldn't really argue that point, but I think the corner turned on that day in Seattle. It sent a message to Beaver Nation that they had a good leader at quarterback, a good coach, and a competitive team. I remember that day well - I was unfortunately at Autzen stadium with an USC fan rooting against the Akili Smith-led ducks who ended up taking down the Trojans. When the final score was announced, their was an audible "ooohh" then a ton of buzz around the stadium. duck fans at that point got the message, too. And since then, no matter what they might say, they've been scared to death of the Beavers. And they should be. The Beavs have been a legitimate force in college football since that day. I love the fact that we've grown the program the right way, with a grass roots effort, under terrific, classy leadership. The guys down south, well, in my opinion that's another story.
Thanks Cliff, that's a relief. I was hoping it was tongue-in-cheek but so often in today's society it's all about "honoring diversity" by trying so hard to not offend the tiny minority. The "unity tree" is an example of why I had that knee-jerk reaction.
The Coffee Incident? Were they OK with his slip up? Last I checked this was a free country. Since when is it not allowed to have a cup of coffee at a freaking press conference? A faux paus? What a bunch of PC BS to the nth degree.
Just imagine the horror if he would have had a two liter bottle of Mountain Dew, or...gasp.. an energy drink. BYU players may have rioted over his callous disrespect.
Lighten up Cliffy. There just trying to get your attention and it worked. If they wanted to bribe you they'd drop a few more bills in the envelope. Clever approach from UTEP. And don't penalize the kid by not voting for him. I'm sure it wasn't his idea. C'mon, are really offended as you sound?
