Is this the end of unparallelled ruthless dominance hungama in the mobile vas akin to indiatimes in 2005? Like when TN Prabhu left Indiatimes, 8888 was the topmost VAS provider ...almost untouchable .... he went to rediff but not much happened. Saleem also created hungama mobile with so much of passion (not trivialising the rest of hungama team and neeraj roy but the man was something) . Not sure if Hemant, siddhartha or Neeraj can fill the void.

that sounds interesting ... I had another thought to the whole stuff ... now if neeraj joins vodafone then both the largest operator can be ruled by hungama ... :)

Only if hte wishes were horses ...

Wish you all the best Saleem.
For all other non-hungama and PPL guys - sit tight - lots of deal making innovation to take place.

There seems to be different models being developed. Onmobile is working on a new biz model which will allow users to change CRBT any number of times. The rev share is being worked upon between T-series and PPL. Operators need to make the reporting very transparent and payout more regular. Right now the need for Hungama or any aggregator in Value chain is to fund T-series or any music label for content acquisition. They pay to labels like T or YRF in advance. The only way to make money is either lock the operator with MG or armtwist smaller operators like Aircel/Tata for larger share in content operations. The operators don;t want to take the overhead of dealing with smaller labels and I agree with Vasetomy that the VAS managers are too unskilled to understand the content biz. No one wants to look for long term biz interest. Vas mangers are too busy in jumping jobs or moving up in the corp ladder.
There is no one seasoned enough to negotiate with the largest content aggregator of the country.

Global - what was the missing info. The first line mentions that the music rights are with T-series. And being T-series, they will have ALL (images/gaming/CRBT, tones) the mobile rights related to the movies they sign the music right. Only thing they will not have is IPTV or movie streaming.
In theory bollywood is no everything. In practice check with where Hungama is just because of bollywood.
That is the only company I believe is hiring at all levels. They might be cutting down some non-profitable portions but they are the only one actually launching new stuff.

On execution - Checkout hungama's music store on bsnl (bsnl-dot-hungama-dot-com) and I have not seen utvatplay beyond press releases. Also see hungama on tata sky. thats a complete new category.

In reality - the ABC of content (Astro/Bollywood/Cricket) - Hungama has demonstrated that Bollywood is the largest. Might be Saleem's execution or people's preference but right now BOLLYWOOD is EVERYTHING is you want to be SOMEBODY.

But UTV had sold all the music content (physical and mobile) rights to T-series (i mean Hungama) so how come utv new media has motion picture content? Is it only Joda Akbar? But all the cream like Fashin, DevD and Deli-6 is with hungama. So what is the first mover advantage new media is claiming about?

Nice logo - too tempting to copy. But last I saw, they still had the old logo.

Now the million dollar question is that the website - bsnl.hungama.com says 30,000+ songs so why the update as 50,000+ songs. If the later is true, the former has to be true.

Definitely path breaking. How is the royalty paid out to the content owner and what is the mix between operator (BSNL) and hungama?
What is the quality of content - 128kbps or 192kbps ?
DRM - no DRM?

No need to use itunes kind of services any more?
