Breitbart.tv : Man Wins Handgun Lawsuit Against Chicago

At first blush, grimreaperxx, it seems both sides could be to blame here, but I have to respectfully disagree with your assessment. It is a good idea to be certified and yes, of course Duenas could drive a few miles out of town and get certified, but here's the problem: a local government cannot do an end run around the constitution by creating laws that essentially circumvent guaranteed rights. To use a different example, a community may not want an adult bookstore to open, but the supreme court has ruled that even adult material (not "obscene" material) is afforded some measure of protection under the constitution. So like it or not, the community allows it to open, but then passes ordinances so restrictive it makes compliance overly difficult. For example, a community cannot require the book store only be allowed open 15 minutes a week, one week a month, 3 months of the year and then have a reasonable expectation that the bookstore owner can make a living. Of course, the bookstore could locate just outside the city limits, but the community is still doing an end run around the constitution and courts have repeatedly struck down these kinds of laws (and not just for adult bookstores, for lots of other businesses too). And no, I'm not advocating for adult bookstores. I'm merely saying that some laws, like the Chicago gun law in question, were clearly intended to do an "end run" around the constitution and need to be challenged.

My city had 4 drive-ins when I was growing up. There were also two nearby, one about 15 miles away and the other about 25. The five closest ones are gone now. The last one standing in my area is http://www.holidaydrivein.com/ I take my family at least a couple times a summer.

Big Hollywood : Today's Open Thread

The other day I was looking online for novelty songs from the 1940s and 1950s and came across this song "I'm No Communist" by Carson Robison http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HMskjKZ4r4E&fe... . Change the word "Communist" to "Socialist" and it is fascinating how most of this song, recorded nearly 60 years ago in 1952, is applicable to today. The song is a condemnation of Communism but is equally harsh on the Washington Big Government machine and us if we sit and do nothing.

Big Hollywood : Brad Pitt: Let's Execute Some BP Executives

Locally a formerly BP station I frequent had just changed over to the Marathon brand right before the oil spill. After news of the spill had dragged on for two months, I asked the owner (family business, hands on, there every day) if he was glad he made the switch when he did. He breathed a big sigh and said "yes" and that he has a brother who owns a BP station in New York whose business dropped -- in half -- because of the constant news coverage of an event 1,000 miles away he had no control over.

I enjoyed the movies but they were more or less average. On first watching I thought the fight scenes were cool too. But on second watching, when I paid more attention to details, a lot of these scenes aren't much more than quick camera edits. He really doesn't do much. Not all of them, but most of them. For my money the fight scenes with Jason Statham in the first Transporter movie are much, much better.

Is the ACLU filing lawsuits against the government so graduation ceremonies can begin with an invocation? Have they done a 180 on displaying the 10 commandments?
Big Hollywood : Death of the Television Star: Reality Shows Deliver High Ratings for Less Money, Smaller Egos

Do most actors have huge egos? Yes. Are many overpaid? In my opinion "yes". On the other hand, it's not really any of my business what actors make. It's all part of the process. If they are the reason the show draws an audience - and advertisers that support the show - then they should get whatever they can negotiate for. Shows are cancelled all the time. If the networks don't want to spend the money, they won't. Personally, I think it's obscene what pro athletes are paid, yet even in this economy I don't see empty stadiums or poor ratings or fans refusing to buy expensive crap with their favorite team's logo on it. So let them get whatever the market will bear. It takes real effort to put together a quality, compelling and entertaining show and that should be rewarded. Most reality shows don't fit that bill and one result is there have been 10 lousy reality shows for every "good" one. After 20 + years of reality shows, frankly I'd like to see them fade away.
