It is a good idea and he sets a good example by blaming the drunk driver and not her supplier or host. Too many people want to punish everybody younger than 21 for homicides committed by anybody younger than 21. The results of those misguided efforts are memorialized at http://udadd.com/m.html

That's what the government gets for busting so many underage drinking parties instead of getting the drunk drivers off the road.

This is what happens when the State sends cops out to bust up underage drinking parties instead of getting drunk drivers off the roads.

You suppose the cops ought to leave the underage responsible drinkers alone, and focus on the drunk drivers? Of course, it is politically easy to pick on innocent citizens under 21. Most legislators and voters would rather impose tough underage drinking laws on Mr. and Mrs. Twenty than get serious and impose tough DWI laws on themselves. Most cops would rather go on Party Patrol and arrest people under 21 and take the beer than go on DWI Patrol and arrest each other. Any punishment meted out to underage responsible drinkers is punishment that should have been meted out to drunk drivers.

Hey, don't forget me! I ran for U.S. Senate in 2008, got over 10 percent of the Republican primary vote against incumbent U.S. Senator John Sununu, AND got elected delegate to the New Hampshire Republican State Convention. The filing period isn't until June 2010 but I'm looking to run for U.S. Senator again. I differ from Ron Paul's views on the immigration issue. I am for open borders.

The girl never got a chance to drink legally. The excuse for the drinking age is, they supposedly want to reduce the carnage on the roads, but here is ample proof they don't care about the carnage. The auto and oil industries want the government to impose the maximum punishment on rebels who insist on walking instead of driving. Snow plowed onto sidewalks. Roads without sidewalks. Traffic lights without crosswalk lights. Zoning restrictions preventing people from living closer to places where they can work, shop or gather to drink. Zoning restrictions forcing apartment builders to add parking lots, pass the cost onto all tenants whether they have a car or not. (Zoning people ask where the tenants will park there cars but never ask where tenants will dock their boats or land their helicopters. If you have one, rent a place with that accommodation.)

What they need to do is get rid of the underage drinking laws. Then the NM Legislature will have to scramble to pass some serious DWI laws. (Hint: there won't be more teenagers killed in DWI crashes when they repeal the drinking age if there aren't ANY teenagers killed in DWI crashes because they eliminated DWI with a serious crackdown.) Underage drinks know very well why most lawmakers and voters don't want to impose tougher DWI laws: They're afraid of the penalties themselves.
