Jon Stewart usually posts the full interviews on his website, within a day of the airing of the edited version. His selection comes in how he presents 'the news', especially with regard to what he perceives as hypocrisy on Fox News' part.
Great work, Dana. Good to have this on the record. The interwebs are a marvelous thing. Now I'm off to do that email before my compuserve dial up times out.
Read the 10th amendment. Secession is not prohibited to the states, nor delegated to the United States by the Constitution. So the right is reserved.
"The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people."
Secession is not prohibited to the states, nor delegated to the United States by the Constitution. So the right is reserved.
In forming a 'more perfect union' in the Constitution, the word 'perpetual' is notably absent - it is used 5 times in the AoC. What's more, 3 ratifying states (VA, RI & NY) explicitly reserved the right to secede. There is nothing in the debates of the continental congress indicating this right was in contention.
I have a simple question regarding secession: Would the constitution have been ratified by all the states had secession been explicitly outlawed? In other words, would the founding generation consider ratification a one way street, a blood pact with no right to secede? Did they not secede themselves? And if their revolutionary war victory is what validated THEIR secession, how is that not a philosophy of 'might makes right'?
The confrontation model toward entrenched rulers must be like Chris Christie's. Answers to all questions facing the nation and government must be rooted in principles embodied in The Law, by Bastiat: Life, Liberty, Property. Federalism means allowing states their own way. We must return to this or perish under the staggering weight of Leviathan.
It seems from the video (to me) James Massey could have pushed him off. He easily ran away to get a cop. The guy didn't even have a grip on him, it was obvious from his own words. Sure the old "Goon" (was he little rabbit foo foo the serial field mouse bopper in his prior life?) was technically guilty of battery, but Massey even said he wasn't squeezing. So nobody was technically choked. He had his hands around his neck, that is all.
The whole scene is too gay to get all worked as if some thug was beating him down and stomping him with his doc martens. This could be satire - I mean, he had 'choked' chyroned under his head during the interview! What a hoot!
The ninjitsu thumb choke? OMG, the left has Ninjas!?! We are in trouble!
I'm probably 'on your side'. I just think this incident doesn't appear to be all some are making it out to be.
