I should point out that my friend, Rev. Scott Heitshusen, pointed out a couple of the Scripture passages to me. Thanks, Scott!

Very interesting. I'm sure there is a long story about the lighting. As a photographer, I am doubly sensitive to the use (or misuse) of light in acoustic space. So where would the permanent font be placed in the English tradition?

I don\\\'t disagree with you either, Christopher. I just found it rather astonishing that the patristic fathers seem to pretty universally taken the garment as charity.

@Christopher I noticed that in the ACCS series Augustine and a couple other fathers make the explicit point that the wedding garment is charity and NOT baptism. What do you think of that?

Lutheran Logomaniac : Why the LCMS can't exercise church discipline

Certainly I agree with many of your assessments here. My basic point is that given our structure, it is not possible for there to be church discipline. We may disagree on whether that SHOULD happen at the synodical level or not. But the reality is that it CAN'T happen at the synodical level.

I Trust When Dark My Road : Recommended Reading List on Depression

I am very familiar with the book. The reasons I didn't include it are: 1. it is out of date in terms of the medical information included. This is especially true when it comes to dealing with medications. In 1996 Prozac was still the new thing, and the landscape has changed dramatically since that time. Second, and more importantly, if I go to find a book that is published by a Lutheran publishing house, I expect the Gospel to predominate (call me Waltherian). While there is some good stuff in there, I don't believe that the lines are drawn well in terms of pastors and counselors, and simply put the answers that they provide are generally secular. While much of what they suggest is good, it doesn't hold up the role of the forgiveness of sins, the spiritual dangers inherent with depression, and really doesn't put Christ forward where he belongs. This is obviously simply my opinion. This book was actually one of the reasons why I wrote mine, because I think that the gaps in it are too huge to be ignored. Anyway, my $.02. Thanks! -DMR
