John, why do you only pay $7.99? I got the same plan and it costs me $11.99. Do you get the Blue-Ray option? I just got "Barcelona" in the mail today. Now, if you could direct me to a Redbox (or even a video store) that has a copy of that movie, I'd GLADLY drop the disc option. It isn't available to stream either. Unfortunately, I think I'm locked into both Netflix plans. (Maybe I can just have my water turned off instead.)

Atlas Shrugged was a victim of Objectivism. One of the major tenets of that faith is that a person's creation should never be altered. So when they made the movie, it had to follow the book to the letter. Heroic stoicism and god-like perfection might make interesting writing, but it just doesn't work on the big screen. For example, if Dagny was a nail biter, wore mis-matched wrinkled clothes, or had a habit of always being late; it would have humanized her and made the film more watchable. (Ditto for the the train crash, which unfortunately doesn't happen until part three.) Unfortunately the Objectivists, particularly the rights holders of the script, would have major objections to such a rewrite. The film wasn't made for a wide audience, it was made for fans of the book, all of whom rushed to see it opening weekend. The sad part is, people who needed to see the film probably never will. I know that compromise is a really bad word right now, but sometimes, it's important. How ironic, that Ayn Rand's philosophy, doomed the film that was supposed to give that philosophy more notoriety.

"It's nothing to do with politics." It has EVERYTHING to do with politics. The writers knew they needed to do Presidential humor, but love Obama too much to really nail him. So instead, they did this kid glove slapstick. Comedy needs a little truth to be funny. The writers who fawn over him can't see his flaws (flaws that are obvious to the rest of us). So they fictionalized a flaw, and it came out really stupid.
