Obama can't help the WORKING man unless he helps the HIRING man!
Tell your representative to vote for the REAL American Jobs Act, HR 2911!

In Christ, certainly. Happens all the time in Christian circles. You know, you're not much different from the first century Romans, who considered Christians incestuous for expressing such sentiments.

The pollution, dear Tony, lies not in my mind but in yours . . .

I love Christine O'DonnelI dearly as a sister in Christ, and one of these days I hope to propose to her. But that said, I think she didn't handle this interview as well as she could have. She should have known that Piers Morgan was going to put her on the defensive and make her look silly, and she should have had some ready offense.

Any liberal interviewing a real honest-to-God conservative (and I mean that literally) is bound to throw in a sex-related question or two to ruffle said conservative, and the conservative should be prepared with some good, relaxed answers to throw him off. If I were in O'Donnell's place, and he asked me about masturbation, I would have asked him right back, "Why do you want to know, Piers? Are you feeling a little guilty? Having some second thoughts?" Or words to that effect. In other words, find out where he's uptight and put HIM on the defensive.

I would have handled the "gay marriage" question differently, by setting the terms for the question. "What do you mean by that, Piers? Don't you know there is no such thing? Marriage has been defined over the centuries as the union between a man and a woman, be it secular or holy. Homosexuals are free to marry anyone they choose, as long as a man marries a woman or vice versa. Call a union of two men or two women anything you like, but it sure as h*ll ain't marriage." In other words, show that "gay marriage" is a false construct and treat it as such. I would have answered any further questions based on those definitions, and not let him run off with the interview. (I've done this before with interviewers -- it's easier than it sounds.)

But most importantly, O'Donnell should remember the advice of Mark Twain: "When in doubt, tell the truth." She has some strong and important stands on issues personal and political, and she should not be afraid to state them. I know she's probably been asked about masturbation and homosexual marriage dozens, if not hundreds of times, and she's probably bored with those issues and wants to move on. But she should still be prepared to give an intelligent, forceful answer, even if it's not what some people want to hear. O'Donnell had a real opportunity to turn this into a "teaching moment," but instead she sounded uptight and evasive.

Christine, take the Apostle Paul's advice, and be prepared to defend your faith in season and out of season . . .

I was about 10 years old when I first saw "All the Time in the World." Like Burgess Meredith in this episode, I was severely nearsighted, wore thick glasses, and loved to read. So I really identified with his character, and rooted for him until the very end, as he starts stacking up book for his future reading and then breaks his glasses.

I sat there thinking, "And . . . . ?" waiting for something else to happen, but nothing else did -- just Serling's outro, closing credits, the big CBS eye. And then, thinking back to Meredith's character again, I yelled, "Loser!" I felt cheated.

You see, from a very early age, I loved to lie back in bed with a good book, take off my glasses, and pull the book up close to my face until it focused. I had to hold the book so close, it shut out everything else, and I could smell the paper and ink. I could really concentrate on my reading and shut out the rest of the world, and I loved it the whole experience. I still read in bed that way today.

So forgive me if I think "All the Time in the World" is less than stellar. It ignores one of the plainest facts about nearsighted people -- we're not blind, dammit! It also ignores the fact that thick glasses are really hard to break -- the kind I wore, you'd have to jump up and down on to get the lenses to shatter. Just dropping them wouldn't do it. And if you can see and really want to read, nothing is going to stop you -- not even a broken pair of glasses.

No, if I were in Burgess Meredith's place, I wouldn't have let a broken pair of glasses stop me from reading. I really would have enjoyed having "all the time in the world."

MATCH POINT a "brilliant" film? Come on. It started out promising, but before the halfway point, I could see exactly where it was going, and the end was a copout. It was almost like Allen didn't have enough money for a proper ending, so he just let it peter out. It was the last Woody Allen movie I ever saw, and I've been reluctant to take a chance on his movies ever since.

Best laugh I had today! I'll bet that's one kitty that's a little less curious than he was before. Kudos to the firefighters!
