hahahahaha...
yeah, that's what they say about the bible too...
and what proof do you have for that ? let me give you a hint: none !

anyway, in regarding this article, I have to say that it is a little unfair to muslims in general...
has anyone ever read the jewish talmud ? that what you'd call a book full of hatred and dislike for anyone not of their kind.

yeah, Anath was just telling her own experience and how she views this experience as a non-christian. what's pathetic about sharing an experience ?
and if you would read through some of the articles here you will find something more than "teenage rebellion" .

I agree with waldheri. I got this encyclopedia from DK called simply "Universe". I got it while I was in the states. It's very interesting and pretty good. also, regarding to what waldheri said, your should really encourage him into adopting his own philosophy, his own way of thinking and of acting. Probably during the next part he will get pretty confused about his beliefs. Believing in god no more will shake his very foundations that he has created in his mind regarding the world, regarding the view on life and on the way he should act in life, foundations that he has created basing himself on the idea of god. now without "god" he is also left without the conceptions of "morality" and definitions of "good and evil". I know this, because I experienced this when I lost my faith.
So what I would certainly do in your position is encourage him towards individualism. towards developing his OWN way of thinking. he should decide himself what to think, what path to follow etc. "Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law" sort of thing ;) Because some people who lose their faith immediately fall into a different fallacy: that the "modern day" standards and social dogmas are the number one way to go and that there is no other way. you are freeing yourself from one dogma only to find yourself chained by a different one.

hahaha. been there, done that. I mean I had two weddings this year, so I had to be in church. For me in was kind of fun. Since most of my friends are atheists we had quite a lot of fun. hell, I even have a lot of pictures with me making the Devil's sign in church. other than weddings and stuff related to, well no church for me. I've been there when I was young, I know what it is all about, and it is boring as fucking hell...i mean heaven. Hell is quite entertaining.

@jorrizza: no shit ! you really got banned from entering your local church ? :)))) I wonder what they'd do if you were to enter ....

there you have it. "Christians" haven't even ONCE opened the "holy book". I think all of us who are writing here had such experiences with ignorant people and I myself try to bring this fact to light as often as I can. It is ironic that from all the people I know, and from all the people I met that hold their Christianity as the PEAK of their existence, I am the one who best knows the writings of the bible and the nature of the christian dogma. And I, of course, am anti-Christian. Whenever I engage in such a discussion and I bring forth the facts, the proof, the stupidity of Christianity, they all fall either silent, because they don't have any arguments, or they give me the old "you don't understand what jesus wanted to say with that verse". It is so typical. Whenever I point towards an embarassing verse, means that "I didn't understand correctly". man, I wish someday the intelligent people (at least) that for some reason follow this poison would just accept reality and move on with their lives, without any such burdens on their shoulders- like this "right -hand path" bullshit.

I don't see how a lie can EVER solve anything. it will only make things worse. By telling the lie of heaven you will be condemning the child to mental enslavement by a false and harmful doctrine. People need to get on their own in life, fighting for their desires, not sitting on their knees their whole life and waiting to die to go to heaven.
Also, do you realize the hypocrisy behind it all ? "It was god's will", they say ! "He's with god now" they also say. "he went to a better place", they add. I'm sure that even the most die-hard christian would rather have that loved one with them, on earth, instead of "with god, in a better place".
As for answering the question of this topic: well, what I would tell a child is that I don't know what happens after death, as no evidence has ever been found to support any idea. Later on, when a child grows and develops some mature thinking, he can be challenged with the idea that death is probably the end.
