About 43,000 Republicans voted in the Nevada 2008 caucus. This year that number went down about 25% to some 33,000 voters. In 2008 Mitt Romney got 22,390 votes. This year he got 16,486 votes. In 2008 Ron Paul got 5862 votes. This year he got 6175. So, despite a reduction of about about 10,000 votes in Nevada, Ron Paul increased his number of voters. Romney down, Paul up.

RCP reports closer to 43,000 votes cast in Nevada in 2008 for the GOP nomination. http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2008/pres...

As of 11:30pm EST Sunday, it appears that there are thousands of votes still to be counted, and maybe as many as 15,000 more. There were about 43,000 votes cast in the 2008 Nevada GOP content, and there are about 30,000 votes counted so far in yesterday's caucus. With so many votes still to be counted (or recounted), it appears entirely possible for Ron Paul to overtake Gingrich for 2nd place, given that he is about 900 votes behind.

I find it odd that in 2008, McCain won because Romney and Huckabee supposedly split the conservative vote. Now, Romney is winning because Gingrich and Santorum are supposedly splitting the conservative vote?
