Deep Thoughts : Atheist Blogroll Photography Contest

I waited a few days cos it seemed overkill for everyone to advertise it at the same time: http://www.whydontyou.org.uk/blog/2009/08/01/athe... Now I need to dig out some pictures.

nullifidian : Thunderf00t vs Comfort

Fair one - and to that extent there is no problem with Thunderf00t debating with retard^W Comfort. That said, it is already being semi-spun as an example of where Comfort has beaten down yet another "Clueless Atheist." The mind boggles.

ROTFLMAO. While funny I do think that any attempt to engage with nutcases just legitimatises their madness. No one will ever come out of a debate with a madman looking good and these things become nothing more than point scoring PR exercises - science can rarely convince the ignorant in this manner. Still, the bits I watched were quite funny - when I have time I will try to see it all.

Well done. We need to begin fashioning temples to Mithra now. Can you put in a good word for me on Friday night's lottery please? Let us know if the book is any good - I seem to spend half my life buying books from Amazon (and the other half trying to read through them all!)

The Freethinker : US Mother killed her daughter by choosing prayer over medical assistance

"he woman did everything she could to help her. " Hmm, is lying no longer a sin? Taking the child to hospital and getting real treatment is noticeably absent from the crazy loon's To-Do list. Still, you gotta have faith....

nullifidian : Spot the difference

Sadly, this is quite an accurate description of how people perceive atheists/atheism. I had quite a lengthy argument over the weekend about the "religion of atheism" - basically my opponents were saying that the dogmatic "secular humanists" had formed a religion out of atheism and were trying to supplant the currently established religions with it. The main things that annoyed me about the whole argument were that the people I was discussing it with weren't even followers of a monotheistic religion and, crucially, when I asked them for examples or evidence of their claims they degenerated into mumbling about being rude to question others beliefs. Infuriating is an understatement.

nullifidian : Pretentious Book Meme

I faired quite badly here - I can only check off 32, and a good few of them are the result of the required reading lists in school.... I think that Harry Potter should count as multiple entries and having read Lord of the Rings a good few dozen times, that should count for more. There are a lot of books on that list I will never read - Bridget Jones Diary being a prime example - so I doubt my tally will increase.
