Voyager? Really? The only good thing to come out of that show was Jeri Ryan, who was responsible for getting Barack Obama elected Senator of Illinois.

I feel for you, John. LaTeX is a lot more fun for math. :-)

I think in "The Shoes of the Fisherman", the Pope causes a controversy by opening up the vast resources of the Catholic Church to help feed starving people.

If the Church does not do good with the tithes it collects, what is the point?

Um, I have a couple of "Clydes" in my life; I also have a "Susan" ... This was clearly a job for Susan, not Clyde.
What is Lemont thinking?!

The Star Trek comment is funny. :-)

My six year-old told his piano teacher a couple of weeks ago, "I watch a show called 'Star Trek.'"

I did that. :-)

You just described the toughest and best job I've ever had. Hopefully my kids won't fire me. :-)

And the man's first name is "Herman" ... "hermano" in Spanish is "brother".

"Brother Cain"? Hmmm.

Personally, I think of Caine as a wanderer, cognizant of his guilt, seeking forgiveness through service to others. Sort of like David Carradine's character in "Kung Fu".

But, Herman Cain is nothing like Kwai Chang Caine.

Oh well.

Sometimes, doing the right thing (see http://whattheheckhasobamadonesofar.com), doing your job, is not going to win you any popularity contests.

Just ask President Lyndon Johnson after he signed the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and the Voting Rights Act in 1965 ---- President Johnson is purported to have said, "We [the Democratic Party] have lost the South for a generation."

Yes, our President needs to work on his campaign ads; the good news is, he's done a lot to be proud of despite fanatical resistance and obstruction from House and Senate Republicans. Targeting the 2012 campaign on his record and on Congressional Republicans' lack of one would prove more effective. I look forward to when that happens.

I sort of hope Lemont and Susan don't age ... I thought the aging in "For Better or For Worse" was at first a distraction and then ultimately detracted from any humor or social commentary. I stopped reading that strip in the early nineties, before I got married or had kids, so I might feel differently now ... Just checked the latest "FBoFW". Nope. Not funny.

Oh, for the days of "Calvin and Hobbes" and "Bloom County" ... thanks, Darrin, for keeping up the tradition of the pithy comic. :-)

BTW, love Susan's outfit.

In "Stranger in a Strange Land", Heinlein observed that all humor is ultimately rooted in our realization that we are mortal. I think Jobs and Lemont are proving that point.
