Europe's highly regulated, labor-dominated, rigid work rules and high taxes result in low productivity growth so there is no exit to be derived from increasing productivity. The profusion of expensive benefit "promises" made during the years when the baby boom produced a relative abundance of workers has now produced promises that are incredibly expensive. Consequently Europe does not have the workforce, the productivity growth and the current or future earning power to sustain current expenses, let alone accelerating future expenses. Deep, deep, deep doo doo. I do not see how they get out of this. Economically they seem doomed.
